We are seeking an experienced, innovative, andrelationship-centered fundraising professional to join as our firstever Development Director on the North Carolina team here at CommonCause.

This is an exciting opportunity to build impactfulrelationships with donors across the state, and to tell our storyto millions across the state to grow our team’s ability to leadimpactful coalitions and be a leader in strengthening democracy inNorth Carolina.

This is a full-time role reporting to the ExecutiveDirector, North Carolina; this role is based in the Triangle, NorthCarolina, with an expectation to travel around the state up to 3days per week. We hope our new Development Director will start inApril.

Responsibilities Develop and implement our fundraising strategy Develop and execute our fundraising strategy for the NorthCarolina team, including how we will identify, cultivate, grow anddiversify our support across major donors, planned giving, andfoundations in North Carolina Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors andfoundations, and sustain a portfolio of at least 50 major donorswho are contributing $1,000 or more per year Collaborate with our External Affairs team to create andexecute a strategy to engage our donors, and manage fundraisingcommunications via email, website, social media, and otherchannels Lead the strategy and implementation of fundraising events andcampaigns In collaboration with members of the team, manage foundationand corporate fundraising, meeting deadlines for proposal andreporting, and ensuring all grant deliverables are met Ensure administration of pass-through grants and payments tocommunity partners and grantees Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performanceand adjust strategies as needed Share reports with our advisory board, and support withcreating agendas for and facilitating board meetings Provide guidance to staff, advisory board members, andvolunteers on how they can support our fundraising efforts Manage the Development Coordinator and oversee developmentoperations for North Carolina Manage the

  • andlong-term priorities at once, with high attention to detail; strongorganization skills, and an ability to manage your timeindependently An ability to compel and persuade others through both writtenand verbal communication, and specifically to translate complextopics and programs into inspiring pitches; and an ability tomaintain discretion with sensitive and confidential donorinformation Openness to feedback and awareness of your own strengths andareas for growth Familiarity with office productivity tools including MicrosoftOffice, Slack, and Zoom; ideally you have experience using a CRM tomanage your work with donorsThe following is required: Demonstrated success at closing gifts at $1,000 and above Experience fundraising through major donors, foundations, andgrants; ideally you have done this work for both 501c3 and 501c4organizations Demonstrated familiarity with the donor landscape in NorthCarolina (either knowledge of or existing relationships with majordonors and foundations) Experience coaching others to develop skills, ideally as themanager of a full-time staff member Ability to travel up to three days per week in-state and 1-2times per year across the US for meetings with donors as well asteam and all staff retreats Per our nonpartisan policy, Common Cause staff members may notcurrently be in elected office (or running for office); on theSteering Committee or Finance Committee for any politicalcandidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a politicalpartyAdditional information about this role: This position is classified as supervisory and therefore notincluded in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.

  • $110,000 a yearIn order to ensure greater equityand transparency as an organization, Common Cause sets salaryranges consistently based on job responsibilities, and we determinesalary for each staff member based on relevant years of experience(you can read more about our approach to compensation , includingwhere we offer geographical adjustments).
