Position Overview:
Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity is seeking an effective leader who is passionate about our mission and cultivates relationships in support of the work we do. The Director of Development (DoD) role provides a blend of strategic thinking, interpersonal skills, and operational leadership in achieving the organization’s mission and directing the day-to-day activities of Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity. This person is responsible and accountable to the President & CEO for the management of the Development Team. As the DoD, you will represent our affiliate throughout the community, understand the relational and systems sides of fundraising, excel at leading a team, and increase collaboration across departments. Position Responsibilities Fundraising In collaboration with the President & CEO and input from the Board of Directors create and maintain a strategic plan for fundraising that is consistent with the goals set forth by the organization. Identify and cultivate donor prospects with emphasis on major donors and securing recurring major gifts. In partnership with the major gift officer, develop, implement, and maintain a planned giving program. Develop and implement a plan for donor recruitment, retention, and recognition. Manage the maintenance of the donor database, as well as recognition and acknowledgement of contributors. Manage special events fundraising in collaboration with Corporate, Faith and Events, as well as Marketing and Communications. Secure sponsorships for Habitat homes from organizations, individuals, and consortia. Public Appearances/Marketing Participate and assist others in representing CFHFH to the public. Represent CFHFH at meetings, organizations, etc. that further philanthropy. Grants Work closely with the Grants Coordinator and Chief Operating Officer on grants procurement. Miscellaneous Serve as an active member of the organization’s Leadership Team. Collaborate with all affiliate departments to increase organizational impact and support our increased home starts year over year. Position Requir e m e n t s Commitment to Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity’s mission Demonstrated ability to lead teams in support of organizational goals Demonstrated ability to support and mentor team members Demonstrated ability to develop and articulate overall fundraising metrics Demonstrated ability to raise six figure gifts Bachelor’s degree in related fields of study and at least 5 years of experience in fundraising and knowledge of the local philanthropic community Membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals and/or other philanthropy organizations is a plus. Valid NC driver’s license Strong attention to detail and ability to comply with regulations and procedures Commitment to excellent customer service Excellent computer skills required with experience in all Microsoft software products In-depth experience with a CRM tool, preferable Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce Strong organization, written and verbal communication skills Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities independently Meet all deadlines agreed upon with the President & CEO Sensitivity to confidential information Satisfactory results of sex/offender & criminal background, soft pull credit check and pre-employment drug screening
