Commensurate with Experience Summary The Director of Development will lead all ELIJA’s (Empowering Long Island’s Journey through Autism) fundraising initiatives, focusing on expanding and diversifying revenue streams to support and grow our programs. This role involves strategic planning, creating, and overseeing multiple annual giving campaigns, donor cultivation, grant acquisition, and event management. The Director will report to the Founder and Executive Director and will work closely with the Directors of each ELIJA program to achieve fundraising goals and advance the organization’s mission. The ELIJA Foundation was founded in 2002 to offer the most comprehensive information geared toward improving the lives of people, and their families, living with Autism. The ELIJA School, which educates up to 32 learners annually, opened in 2006 to extend the Foundation’s mission of supporting people with Autism. The ELIJA Transition Program & Services (TPS) was added to expand beyond student instruction and meet the needs of young adults and adults with Autism. The ELIJA Farm was purchased to create a safe, supportive space within the community for individuals transitioning into adulthood. It serves as a place where they can build and strengthen essential life skills, paving the way for a more successful and fulfilling future. In addition, the farm fosters community engagement through its annual Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, ongoing classes and activities, special events, and other offerings throughout the year. Responsibilities

    Fundraising Strategy & Donor Engagement:

    Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and government agencies to support ELIJA’s mission.

      Grant Writing & Funding Acquisition:

      Research, write, and submit compelling grant proposals to secure funding from private foundations, corporate sponsors, and local government sources.

        Event Management:

        Plan, coordinate, and execute key fundraising and community events, including the Annual Golf Outing, Long Island Behavior Analysis Conference, Fall Harvest Festival, and other mission-driven events throughout the year.

          Marketing & Communications:

          Create and manage targeted fundraising campaigns and promotional content across platforms (social media, email via Constant Contact, print, and press) to increase visibility and donor engagement.

            Database & Donor Relations Management:

            Maintain accurate donor records, track fundraising activities, generate timely acknowledgements, and produce reports using Little Green Light or similar CRM platforms.

              Team Leadership & Collaboration:

              Supervise, mentor, and inspire development staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative, results-oriented environment aligned with ELIJA’s values. Qualifications Experience & Expertise

              • 7-10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising and development, including annual giving, donor stewardship, campaign management, and gift acknowledgment.
              • Proven success in leading fundraising initiatives, meeting revenue goals, and tracking key performance metrics.
              • Demonstrated leadership in managing donor databases and CRM systems (Little Green Light preferred), with a strong understanding of data-driven fundraising strategies. Communication & Relationship Building
              • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages and engage both internal and external stakeholders.
              • Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills; builds trust and cultivates lasting relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners.
              • Enthusiastic ambassador of the ELIJA mission, with a passion for engaging others and promoting organizational values. Project Management & Organization
              • Excellent project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities, set goals, and meet deadlines.
              • Highly organized and detail-oriented; adept at strategic planning, event logistics, and coordinating cross-functional teams.
              • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; uses data and best practices to inform decisions. Technology & Tools
              • Technologically proficient and adaptable; skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), Canva (design), Constant Contact (email marketing), GiveSmart (fundraising/bidding), Little Green Light (CRM), and Square (payment processing).
              • Ability to troubleshoot and leverage digital tools to increase efficiency and productivity. Event & Program Oversight
              • Experience planning and executing fundraising events and programs, including logistics, budget tracking, revenue reconciliation (in collaboration with Finance), donor stewardship, and follow-up.
              • Provides strategic oversight and coaching for peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives, ensuring alignment with ELIJA standards and goals.
              • Willingness to provide hands-on support for community events, including setup/teardown, as needed. Team Leadership & Collaboration
              • Proven people management skills with experience supervising staff and volunteers in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
              • Strong initiative and follow-through; reliable and flexible in meeting organizational needs, including occasional evening and weekend events.
              • Ability to work independently across multiple locations (Levittown and Huntington). Additional Attributes

              • Deep knowledge of the Long Island philanthropic community and/or conservation practices is a plus.
