Open until filled About Safe Harbor of Chester County For nearly three decades, Safe Harbor of Chester County has served as a vital lifeline for individuals experiencing homelessness. As the largest homeless shelter in Chester County—and the only one serving single women—Safe Harbor is more than a shelter; it’s a steppingstone to stability, dignity, and a brighter future. With a growing annual budget of $1.7 million, Safe Harbor provides emergency shelter for up to 40 residents — 20 men and 20 women. Each individual receives not only shelter and essential goods, but also access to intensive housing case management, therapeutic day programming, nourishing daily meals, a community lunch program, all within a whole-person, trauma-informed model of care. Through these integrated services, we support approximately 150 individuals annually on their journey toward stability, dignity, and long-term housing. We provide over 43,000 meals annually. A Role Rooted in Growth The Director of Development role has reopened as part of a strategic internal advancement. Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Finance and Growth , Safe Harbor successfully expanded its fundraising capacity and diversified revenue streams, laying a strong financial foundation for the future. We are now seeking a mission-driven, results-oriented development leader to build on this momentum and elevate our fundraising efforts to the next level as we plan for expansion and growth. Position Summary As the Director of Development, you will be the driving force behind Safe Harbor’s fundraising and philanthropic strategy. This full-time, in-person leadership position offers an exciting opportunity to manage and grow all aspects of development—including major gifts, donor stewardship, special events, sponsorships, corporate partnerships, and communications. You’ll work in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Senior Director of Finance and Growth, Board of Directors, and community stakeholders to ensure financial sustainability and mission impact. Key Responsibilities Fundraising & Strategy Design and execute a comprehensive annual fundraising plan, reflective of budgetary goals and significant revenue growth Manage individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and planned giving Monitor progress and report on key development metrics Donor & Sponsor Engagement Cultivate relationships with current and prospective donors and funders Lead donor communications, acknowledgments, and engagement strategies Create systems for donor stewardship and recognition Events & Campaigns Plan and execute major fundraising events (7-10/year) Oversee peer-to-peer, online, and seasonal giving campaigns Solicit and secure sponsorships and in-kind donations Institutional Funding Collaborate with the Grant Manager to pursue and steward foundation and government grants Ensure accurate reporting, impact tracking, and alignment with funder expectations Communications & Storytelling Partner with internal teams to craft compelling content for appeals, newsletters, and donor outreach Ensure alignment with Safe Harbor’s mission and brand across platforms Develop and manage strategic social media content that strengthens donor engagement, increases community awareness, and supports annual fundraising goals Monitor social media performance and audience engagement to inform content strategy and drive measurable growth in followers, reach, and donor conversions Board & Volunteer Engagement Work with the Development Committee and Board of Directors to support and guide fundraising efforts Train and mobilize staff and volunteers to support development goals Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or related field Minimum 5 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or donor relations Proven ability to meet and exceed fundraising targets Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills Experience with donor databases and platforms (e.g., Givebutter, Quickbooks, Constant Contact, Canva) Strategic, collaborative, and highly organized Deep passion for Safe Harbor’s mission and a commitment to social impact Why Join Safe Harbor?
