We are seeking an exceptional Development Assistant to join our dynamic team. The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) has offices in Columbia, Greenville, and Charleston. This position works onsite at either our Charleston or Columbia offices. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing high-level administrative and logistical support to the Development and Fundraising team at ABVI. This role is essential in ensuring smooth operations across the entire donor cycle, event coordination, and departmental communications. The ideal candidate has extensive experience supporting a development office, is proficient in donor database management (Raiser’s Edge preferred) and event software, and is highly skilled in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. The position requires excellent communication skills, a high level of accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism and discretion.
Required Competencies:
Extensive experience providing administrative support to a development or fundraising team Proficiency with donor databases; experience with Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines Professional written and verbal communication skills Discretion in handling confidential information Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Preferred Experience:
Assisting with donor presentations and communication strategies Supporting stewardship practices and coordinating fundraising events Communicating with donors via phone, email, and in-person interactions Preparing donor reports and reconciling fundraising data Proofreading and editing written materials with attention to detail
Essential Duties:
Accurately enter and maintain donor and event information in Raiser’s Edge and other relevant databases. Provide comprehensive administrative support to ABVI’s Advancement Team. Assist with the execution of ABVI’s stewardship policies, including donor acknowledgments and recognition activities. Support fundraising campaigns and donor events through various administrative tasks. Coordinate internal and external meetings, including scheduling, agenda creation, and travel arrangements for the Advancement Department. Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence, proposals, donor reports, and fundraising summaries as needed. Reconcile monthly and end-of-year giving records in partnership with the Director of Finance. Provide executive-level administrative support and travel scheduling for the CEO. Manage general office operations, including ordering supplies and coordinating with contractors and vendors as necessary. Assist with preparations for donor presentations and communications. Make donor calls and provide follow-up support as needed. Communicate clearly and professionally with donors, staff, and external partners.
