JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for directing all aspects of McKamey Animal Center’s donor engagement and fundraising efforts, the Director of Advancement works closely with the MAC Executive Director, Board of Directors and staff to achieve all annual revenue goals. This position is responsible for activities including: cultivating strong and lasting donor relationships; developing strategies and tactics to effectively increase major gifts, capital gifts, and bequests; management of fundraising events; overseeing grants and other income-generating opportunities; and day-to-day development and marketing operations. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, committed to applying the highest ethical standards of the profession, driven to see MAC succeed and enthusiastic about matching donor passions with MAC’s mission: Saving Animals, Helping People.
SALARY AND SCHEDULE
Salary:
$55,000 to $65,000 per year (dependent on experience)

- Flexible schedule, working hours dependent on donor needs, shelter events, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
- Annual Fund Raising. Implement established and new fundraising campaigns, ensuring achievement of all established annual fundraising goals.
- Program Evaluation. Review, evaluate, and make strategic enhancements to existing fundraising programs on an annual basis and make recommendations to the Executive Director regarding opportunities to increase revenue.
- Donor Stewardship. Direct timely and accurate responses to donor concerns, requests, and gifts. Oversee the planning and execution of donor stewardship events. Develop and maintain relationships with donors including individuals, foundations, corporations, community organizations, and government agencies.
- Major Gifts. Work to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects to meet or exceed targeted goals. Work with members of leadership and the Board in their work to do the same.
Grant Writing:
Ensure annual grant revenue goals are met, preparing grant proposals and ensuring all follow-up reports and requirements are met.
- Special Events Fundraising. Oversee MAC fundraising events to successfully achieve annual fundraising goals.
Planned Giving:
Perform outreach to bequest and other “planned” gift prospects to secure new legacy gifts.
- Data Management and Donor Relations. Ensure the effective and consistent recording of all donor data in MAC’s fundraising database. Oversee the maintenance, confidentiality, accuracy and timely entry of the database and donor information.
Other Giving Opportunities:
Consistently explore other opportunities for creative fundraising, including naming opportunities, donations of gifts-in-kind, merchandising, etc.
- Public Relations. Utilize public relations opportunities (including TV, print news and radio interviews) to increase MAC’s reputation and profile, inform the public, address community needs and create opportunities to engage with existing and potential new supporters.
Social Media:
Utilize all available social media platforms to increase MAC’s reputation and profile, inform the public, address community needs and create opportunities to engage with existing and potential new supporters.
Support Materials:
Prepare applicable internal and external funder support materials (e.g. flyers, welcome packets, case statements, etc.).
- Resource Management. Effectively manage resources (including databases, volunteers, etc.) for maximum benefit to the organization. Prepare and execute annual Development Plan and regularly assesses projected income and expenses. Monitor revenue and expenses in relation to annual budget.
- Compliance. Assure development activities are conducted in compliance with all legal, tax, and government requirements, and assure the highest standards of professional ethics.
- Administrative/Reporting. Supervise development department administrative functions including department files, database, mailing procedures, donor acknowledgement and recognition, bequest files, and planned gift database. Ensure accurate and timely preparation of required reports.
- Professional Development. Keep current on fund development activities and trends.

- Demonstrated ability to successfully raise funds in a nonprofit setting, with experience and proficiencies ranging from major donor cultivation to grant writing.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to philanthropic best practices, as regards donor relations, event planning, grant writing and more.
- Demonstrated project management skills, working with multifaceted projects and diverse constituents.
- Self-motivated with the ability to multitask and effectively prioritize competing interests and needs.
- Proficiency with donor database software (experience with Neon CRM highly preferred), as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Proficiency administering social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Reels, etc.) on behalf of a nonprofit organization.
- Excellent persuasive writing and storytelling abilities.
- Solid analytical and data tracking and analysis skills.
- Ability to identify appropriate segments of donors and prospects and create cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities that build loyalty and trust.
- Professional demeanor, good judgment, and the ability to work independently, but collaboratively, in a goal-oriented team environment.
- Proven organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail (particularly with respect to record keeping and compliance with applicable laws and regulations). Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree (ideally in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management or Public Relations/Communications/Marketing).
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressive, demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising (or equivalent).
- CFRE highly desirable, additional applicable certifications a plus.
- Knowledge of Neon CRM preferred.
- Animal sheltering/animal welfare experience a plus.
- Must be at least 21 years of age (required for insurance purposes); valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
