Commensurate with experience The Humane Educational Society (HES) of Chattanooga is seeking an accomplished, responsive, collaborative, and results-oriented fundraiser to join its leadership team. Founded in 1910, HES provides a safe haven for homeless, abused, neglected and injured animals in our community. HES takes in over 4,000 animals a year from the Hamilton County area and boasts a 94% live release rate as an open-admissions shelter. As a 501(c)(3) organization, HES relies on generous public support, and is seeking a goal-oriented, Director of Development to identify, recruit and connect donors to our mission. The ideal candidate is an experienced fundraising professional with extraordinary relationship-building and communications skills, who has a passion for animal welfare and inspires and engages that passion in others. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in non-profit management, business administration or a related field, five years’ proven fundraising experience, comprehensive knowledge of the donor cycle and fundraising principles, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and demonstrated ability to track and report on fundraising activities. This is a full-time, in-person position with a competitive salary and benefits package.
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Development is responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, special events, planned giving, and other initiatives. This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with HES leadership, the Board of Directors, and volunteers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and management team to develop fundraising goals and strategies that align with the organization’s mission and values Develop and maintain productive relationships with HES staff, board members, and volunteers to support fundraising initiatives and work collaboratively across departments to cultivate a positive team approach to the mission of HES Identify, develop, and manage fundraising initiatives in accordance with priorities of HES, including the annual fund, special events, new donor cultivation, major gifts, direct mail, planned giving, grants and other appropriate activities Identify, organize, and direct the efforts of involved staff and volunteers as needed and assigned Cultivate and maintain relationships and communication with individual donors, corporate sponsors and foundation partners Maintain detailed and complete records of fundraising activities and donors and ensure those activities are tracked properly in the CRM and documented accurately within the accounting system Meet annual activity and financial performance metrics and prepare reports on a regular basis for Executive Director and Board of Directors Approve external communications including press releases and newsletters Act as a spokesperson for HES, as requested Demonstrate ability to solve problems, overcome hurdles, and navigate sensitive issues with discretion, tact, and strong communication skills Ensure compliance with relevant laws, ethical standards, and professional standards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in non-profit management, business administration, or a related field Minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving and special events Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and marketing materials Strong leadership and management skills, including excellent planning, analytical and organizational skills Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, Board members, and volunteers Proficiency with MS Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Proficiency with fundraising software and donor management database Deep commitment to mission and values of
