Vice President of Membership Mobile Chamber Mobile, AL 36602
Summary of Position:
The Vice President of Membership is responsible to the President & CEO for the overall Membership Department. The Vice President oversees programs, committees, and taskforces of the department. The Vice President develops and maintains Membership related resources through new member growth, Board of Advisors, retention of existing members, membership services, and non-dues related products and services.
Essential Functions:
Work in partnership with the President & CEO and volunteer leadership to ensure overall success of the Mobile Chamber of Commerce. Promote increased visibility, interaction, and acceptance of the Chamber and its services in the public and private arenas. Provide ongoing communication with the President & CEO to report progress on goals and objectives pertaining to Plan of Action and progress made toward accomplishing goals and objectives. Drive member Membership dues revenue and average revenue per member. Lead communications and initiatives related to the Board of Advisors program. Provide program and event execution in line with company budgets, ensuring member satisfaction and profitability for each program or event. Oversee the annual total resource development campaign, Chamber Chase, representing a significant amount of revenue each year. Implement and monetize programs that align with the Chamber’s mission and provide revenue to support additional initiatives (Chamber Golf Classic, Member Appreciation Day, and Business Expo). Hire, develop, and retain membership and sales team, managing expectations in line with the Chamber’s mission. Administer activities outlined in the annual budget and develop a plan of action to address any shortfalls. Develop additional member value and revenue streams, publication, and communication of compelling and understandable materials to market the products and services available. Develop and direct initiatives to deliver value to member companies and provide support for these activities. Represent the Chamber at events, including Member recognition at Membership Department events (i.e., BOA, Networking, and Ribbon Cutting events). Support enhancing economic opportunities for all citizens throughout the Chamber and its program of work. Oversee the management of the company database, with CRM updates for member communications. Attend staff, VP meetings, and safety and health training, as required, on time and host regular department meetings. Provide cross departmental communication and support, including participating in event execution. Assist with special projects as delegated by the President & CEO. Participate in conferences and training as directed. Must have flexibility to attend meetings and activities outside regular work hours, with travel as needed. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. Adhere to scheduled work hours and comply with company attendance policy. Follow all safety procedures and policies to maintain a safe work environment.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Ability to interact effectively with staff, board investors, community leaders, elected officials, university officials, existing businesses, and volunteers essential in carrying out Chamber’s mission. Ability to develop and inspire confidence, trust, and respect from internal and external contacts. Ability to be self-sufficient, independent, and resourceful. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and members face to face. Ability to communicate clearly, orally, in writing, and uses emotional intelligence to work through challenges. Possess strong business experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills, thorough knowledge of MS Office software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrate practical public speaking skills. Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports. Demonstrate effective leadership, supervisory, and motivational skills. Ability to help plan, direct, and evaluate the work of subordinates. Possess a sincere concern for helping maintain and create first-class Chamber of commerce programs. Possess communication skills to deal and negotiate with members of all backgrounds and personalities. Ability to use applied knowledge to formulate positive solutions to problem situations. Ability to work well under pressure and manage priorities. Demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detail. Adaptable to change with short notice.
Experience/Education:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years’ experience in corporate management, chamber management or related activities, and an ability to communicate effectively with diverse personalities and issues. Excellent planning, writing, and verbal skills required.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to read and understand information displayed on computer screens and printed documents with attention to detail, with or without corrective lenses. Ability to hear and understand spoken communication in person and over the phone, with or without assistive devices. Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in a way that others can understand, ensuring accurate exchange of information in all interactions. Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at/below shoulder level. Ability to occasionally ascend or descend stairs. Ability to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Ability to frequently use hands, fingers, and wrists for tasks such as typing on a keyboard or using a mouse. Ability to occasionally adjust, move, or lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to move about the office to perform routine tasks such as accessing files, attending meetings, or using office equipment. Ability to travel occasionally to offsite locations, which may involve walking, driving, or using public transportation. Ability to occasionally operate a motor vehicle and travel to offsite locations as needed for work-related events, meetings, or other work-related activities.
