Salary Range :
$155,000 – $180,000 annually General Description and Classification Standards The Council Deputy Chief of Staff serves as a key member of senior leadership within the Atlanta City Council, reporting directly to the Council Chief of Staff. This highly strategic role is responsible for guiding the operational, legislative, financial, and communications priorities of the Council. The position oversees day-to-day management, cross-departmental coordination, and the execution of both short- and long-term initiatives in service to Councilmembers and their constituents. Supervision Received Position is member of senior leadership for the legislative branch. As such, the guidance received is largely strategic in nature, and feedback is collaborative among the Council Chief of Staff and the members of Council. Essential Duties and Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Strategic Leadership & Operations Drive the execution of Council priorities and long-range initiatives. Develop and implement policies to improve efficiency and service delivery across the legislative branch. Collaborate with executive leadership to align departmental strategy with organizational goals. Budget & Performance Management Manage and monitor the operational budget for the members of Council and support offices. Establish key performance indicators and regularly evaluate organizational performance. Team Leadership Development Supervise a team of directors, managers, and staff. Foster a high-performing, inclusive workplace through mentorship, training, and professional development. Promote collaboration and continuous process improvement across the department. Legislative Affairs Advise on and implement legislative strategy to advance Council’s goals. Monitor and analyze legislative developments, preparing reports and recommendations for members of Council. Liaise with external government bodies and constituents to address policy concerns. Communications & Media Relations Oversee all media relations, public communications, and Council outreach efforts. Develop messaging strategies and craft press releases, speeches, and official statements. Ensure consistent and engaging public communication aligned with Council values. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships Serve as a key representative of the Council to internal and external stakeholders. Build and maintain relationships with other City departments, community organizations, and the public to enhance service delivery and policy outcomes. Project & Change Management Lead special projects and cross-functional initiatives. Translate high-level priorities into actionable work plans with measurable outcomes.
