EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR THE OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR ENERGY AND CLIMATE
(VPEC), The Climate Project, will lead the strategic and operational integration of MIT’s global climate agenda, positioning the Institute as a world leader in climate innovation; and work with the VPEC to guide the Climate Project’s vision, drive the implementation, foster interdisciplinary collaboration across the entire Institute, and cultivate high-impact partnerships beyond campus. This role is central to ensuring that MIT’s climate efforts are cohesive, well-resourced, and positioned to address the climate challenge with urgency, creativity, and purpose. The Climate Project is a bold, first-of-its-kind, Institute-wide initiative to accelerate transformative climate solutions through research, education, innovation, and global engagement. This effort is the highest Presidential priority and the largest direct investment the Institute has ever made in funding climate work. This will leverage the entire MIT research and education enterprise, including all DLCIs.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED
Advanced degree in a relevant field such engineering, science, public policy, economics, business, or sustainability; a minimum of ten years of senior-level leadership experience, ideally in a research, academic, government, or mission-driven innovation environment with a strong track record of leading complex scientific or engineering organizations and initiatives; experience influencing institutional strategy and policy at the executive level and navigating complex stakeholder environments in top-tier organizations; proven ability to manage complex, interdisciplinary programs or initiatives with long-term vision and measurable outcomes; strong operational acumen, including experience overseeing budgets, staffing, compliance, and performance management in dynamic organizations; demonstrated success in building and sustaining cross-sector partnerships and engaging diverse stakeholders; ability to cultivate relationships with major donors, foundations, and/or funding agencies; outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences, from students to world leaders: and deep commitment to climate action, scientific integrity, inclusive innovation, and MIT’s mission of service to the world.
