Job Description

The Director, Philanthropy for Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) isresponsible for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation ofindividual major and principal gift prospects and donors. S/he serves asa member of the philanthropy team and plays a central role indeveloping, overseeing, and managing major gift strategies and programs,and coordinating them with other segments of the department’s efforts.

An advocate for the mission and programs of the institution,representing it among its senior volunteer leadership and key andinfluential public audiences.

Job Description:
PrimaryResponsibilities:

1. Serve as a lead strategist in creating andimplementing a comprehensive major and principal gift strategy toadvance the goals of the medical center. With BILH leadership, establishfundraising priorities, develop fundraising goals and timelines, andcreate a plan for building a prospect pipeline through both traditionaland nontraditional means. 2. Serves as a senior member of the Principaland Major Gifts staff with the primary responsibility for advancing theinstitution’s major and principal gifts program to successfully:identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift ($25,000+)prospects and donors. 3. Responsible for devising, implementing, andmanaging effective, creative, and original strategies designed toindividually and systematically interest, engage, and secure a widerange of key prospects to meet or exceed divisional, departmental, andinstitutional funding goals. 4. Establishes and maintains high-qualityrelationships with the institutions’ department chairs, divisionchiefs, senior physicians and researchers, and other key staff byestablishing a personal rapport and acquiring and demonstrating a firmgrasp of a wide range of medically related terms and critical issuesfacing the health care profession. 5. Shapes key institutional anddevelopment-related messages through the direction and preparation ofmajor proposals, solicitation letters, and other materials for majorprospects and donors; ensures that they are persuasively communicated tokey and target audiences and are consistent with the efforts of othersto strategically position the institution in the marketplace. 6. Buildsand manages a personal portfolio of 125 major gift prospects and donorsthat comprise many of the institution’s most important and sensitiverelationships; works in consultation with the Vice President ofPhilanthropy, and other volunteer leaders to discuss and deviseindividually tailored major gift strategies. 7. Shares responsibilityfor the strategic planning, development, and implementation of thedivision’s goals in collaboration with the Vice President ofPhilanthropy, and other senior volunteer leaders. 8. Has the authorityto direct and support employees daily work activities. Has the directresponsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring,termination, corrective action and performance reviews.

None Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’sdegree required. 2. More than 10 years of related work experiencerequired in Development experience, with an established track record ofmajor gift or other related development experience. and 0-1 yearssupervisory/management experience required. 3.

Solid volunteermanagement experience:

demonstrated ability to engage and successfullyutilize volunteers in achieving fundraising goals. 4. Demonstratedsuccess in personally cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding majorand/or annual fund gifts. 5. Ability to travel, occasional evening andweekend work, and adjust to other needs of the department. 6. Advancedskills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word,Excel, PowerPoint or Access, and other web-based applications. Mayproduce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.
