Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education advancement, nonprofit fundraising, or a comparable field such as enterprise sales or business development.

Demonstrated leadership in building, managing, and motivating high-performing teams, with an emphasis on accountability, coaching, and strategic planning.

License/Certification Required Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience managing major gifts officers to reach fundraising goals.

Demonstrated experience in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gifts, preferably with comprehensive campaign and development experience at an academic institution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor, supporting the Vice Chancellor and leading advancement, sales-driven fundraising strategies, and external revenue-generating partnerships across the university.
Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of development directors representing a range of university units, fostering a results-oriented and collaborative culture.
Personally manage a portfolio of major donors and high-level prospects, utilizing sales strategies to build relationships and close transformational gifts.
Oversee the prospect management team to ensure donor pipelines are actively cultivated, portfolios are strategically managed, and research on new prospects is ongoing.
Act as a strategic partner and coach for development officers, helping craft joint solicitation plans for major gifts, corporate partnerships, and foundation support.
Provide high-level consultative advice to the Vice Chancellor and senior administration on fundraising direction and advancement initiatives.
Maintain strong knowledge of university funding priorities through regular engagement with academic and administrative leadership.
Guide and support institutional efforts related to both philanthropic gifts and competitive grants.
Prepare detailed solicitation strategies, compelling proposal materials, and executive briefings for donor engagements.
Lead the coordination of fundraising efforts involving the Appalachian State University Foundation Board of Directors.
Promote a data-informed fundraising culture using key performance indicators and accountability metrics consistent with successful sales organizations.
Ensure that processes meet the unit’s strategic objectives.
