Overview:
The Executive Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Program. The James Madison Program has 7 staff members, hosts 12-16 visiting faculty and post-doctoral fellows each academic year, offers numerous public and private events, and administers a robust undergraduate fellowship program. In addition, the program hosts four residential summer programs and sponsors courses in the Department of Politics and the University’s Freshman Seminars Program.
Responsibilities:
Oversight and day-to-day administration of the program to include : 1. Hire and supervising Program staff 2. Collaborate with Director and Program staff to create content for yearly public events and conferences 3. Administer the Program’s faculty led initiatives 4. Oversee the execution of program events by staff 5. Direct communications initiatives; including podcast, newsletter, and donor outreach. 6. Represent the Director and the Program on and off campus 7. Collaborate with the Director on all sensitive matters pertaining to the the execution of the Program’s mission Fundraising and budget responsibilities to include: 1. Prepare grant proposals and travel to foundations when necessary 2. Support the Program’s fundraising activities; maintain regular, positive relationships with donors and potential donors 3. Report budgetary matters to Executive Committee and Advisory Council 4. Administer the program’s budget in consultation with the Program Manager Administer the Post-doctoral and Visiting Fellows program as follows: 1. Collaborate with the Director, Assistant Director, and the faculty selection committee to review yearly candidate applications 2. Collaborate with the Assistant Director to provide guidance for the fellows’ research, publication agendas, and job applications Offer James Madison Program sponsored courses by teaching in the department of politics or the University’s freshman seminar program 1. Publish research and make contributions to an academic discipline related to the Program’s mission 2. Maintain contacts with outside scholars in the humanities and social sciences, particularly in the fields of constitutional studies, American political thought, and political theory. 3. Maintain contacts with leaders at programs, departments, and institutes across the higher education landscape whose missions resemble the James Madison Program’s mission 4. Support Undergraduate Programs Coordinator in development of content for student programming 5. Teach courses in the Department of Politics and the Freshman Seminar Program when available
Qualifications:
Essential Qualifications:
Terminal degree in Politics, Law, or other politics-related fields Experience in program administration in a higher education setting -Excellent research and writing skills -Record of politics-related scholarly publications, both articles and books Demonstrated expertise in American political institutions and American and Western political thought The successful candidate must be well organized, attentive to detail, and able to respond to deadlines in a timely manner
