Pay:

OVERVIEW

Revitalized in 1960, The Butler County Historical Society is a 501(c)3, private non-profit. The Society owns five properties, consisting of eleven buildings and thousands of artifacts. We have the largest collection in the county of documents, genealogical (family) collections, artifacts, and volumes pertaining to our county. The mission of the Butler County Historical Society is to collect, preserve and interpret the documents, artifacts, and historical sites of Butler County’s rich heritage for the educational benefit of the public. Responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to: Achieve annual membership goals and maintain membership records of the Society, including, but not limited to: recruiting new members and overseeing membership outreach and retention. Build strategic partnerships and collaborations with a wide range of constituencies and sister organizations by maintaining a strong and positive relationship within the community, with other organizations, and with the larger business community. Provide innovative and creative strategies to grow the organization and engage the community in meaningful and impactful ways by developing and executing long-range plans and goals, special events, exhibitions, volunteer recruitment, fundraising initiatives, and additional services or on-going activities of the Society. Increase and diversify financial support from individual donors, foundations, corporations and government. Actively pursues and completes all necessary grants to increase funding for the society by timely identification, preparation, and submission of grant proposals. Oversees a professional donor management system: Operates and monitors donor records, enters data, formulates reports and correspondence. Records memorial gifts, sends thank you letters, and coordinates and organizes annual fund campaigns Ensures a comprehensive database that reflects the inventory of the collections is being properly maintained using archival standards including a data base of all donated materials, museum collections, and artifacts. Prepares and/or approves all materials for publication, distribution, or exhibition including a regularly distributed newsletter to the Society as well as promotional fliers, outreach materials, and social media presence via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the society website. Ensure the integrity of the collections and properties/inventory by providing management and oversight of BHS properties, staff, volunteers, programs, and activities. Oversee day-to-day operations of the Society including meeting with patrons, giving tours, answering questions and inquiries, and acting as a positive liaison with the public and our partners. Provides management and oversight of BHS properties, staff, volunteers, programs, and activities. Research, correspond, and schedule opportunities with potential lecturers and event topics by planning educational or outreach activities throughout the year; oversees and helps with coordination of all other projects. Ensures an organized and safe environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors to Society properties, maintains properties for safety and longevity; oversees the physical wellbeing and maintenance of all the society’s properties. Provides strategic and organizational leadership in implementing the mission and goals of the Butler Historical Society as an ex-officio member of the board of directors by attending Board Meetings and providing detailed Director’s report on activities relevant to the Society and activities of volunteers/employees. Also assists Board committees with information gathering and any other needed support. Lead and develop board, staff, volunteers and programs to ensure that the strategic objectives of the organization are clear and attained in a fiscally responsible manner. Serve as an effective business partner to the board, developing business plans as well as annual budgets for operations and/or capital projects.

Please include a cover letter and resume Exceptional written and communication skills Dedication to meeting deadlines/time management skills Minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in a museum or historical society setting preferred May also have experience in education and/or administration or the equivalent in college work in history/ education/ business/ or library science Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team Interest in education, museum studies, history, art history Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop (knowledge of Past Perfect and QuickBooks preferred) Completed Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required, Masters Degree preferred Must have the ability and interpersonal skills to work effectively with other members of the community Familiarity with historical archiving and filing preferred Ability to lift 15 lbs
