Philanthropy Officer, Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine Position Overview:
The Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine is excited to invite applications for an energetic, self-starting Philanthropy Officer. This is a wonderful opportunity for a passionate fundraising professional to help shape the future of veterinary education in Arkansas and beyond. The Philanthropy Officer will play a key role in building lasting relationships with alumni, friends, and supporters, inspiring major philanthropic gifts that directly impact students, research, and the broader veterinary community. This is a hands-on, donor-facing position for someone who thrives on creating connections and making a meaningful difference. Experience in veterinary medicine or veterinary education is a plus!
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively identify, cultivate, and solicit potential donors, with a focus on securing major gifts of $50,000 and above. Develop thoughtful strategies to engage donors and match their passions with the school’s most exciting opportunities. Initiate personal outreach, conduct face-to-face visits, and steward donors with authenticity and care. Collaborate closely with faculty and staff to craft compelling cases for support that inspire generosity. Represent Lyon College and the School of Veterinary Medicine at donor events, visits, and community gatherings. Maintain clear and timely records of donor interactions and fundraising activities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred. At least 7 years of proven success in major gift fundraising, ideally in education, healthcare, or related fields. Demonstrated ability to self-motivate, prioritize independently, and consistently move prospects to ward major commitments. Highly motivated self-starter with a natural ability to build strong, authentic relationships. Outstanding interpersonal, storytelling, and communication skills. Comfort working independently while also collaborating with a passionate, mission-driven team. Willingness to travel regularly and participate in occasional evening and weekend activities. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
