Are you passionate about climate resilience, sustainability, and building a stronger, more adaptive community? We’re looking for an experienced and strategic Sustainability and Resilience Supervisor to help lead the County’s efforts in securing and managing funding for transformative climate and sustainability initiatives. This role serves as a subject matter expert for County departments, municipalities, regional stakeholders, and civic groups to advance the County’s resilience and sustainability programs. The selected candidate will embrace collaborative partnership-building and hands-on project and grant management to drive resilience efforts across our communities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Grant Management Develop compelling grant proposals and budget narratives to secure federal, state, and private funding. Research and assess funding opportunities, positioning the County as a competitive applicant for major resilience and sustainability investments.
Strategic Collaboration:
Lead cross-sector collaboration with County departments, municipalities, non-profits, and community stakeholders to identify needs, develop initiatives, and manage grant-funded projects. Supervise the coordination of meetings, workshops, and community trainings.
- Program & Project Supervision Oversee climate resilience and sustainability research, pilot initiatives, communications content, and technical project components. Supervise project feasibility studies, technical documentation reviews, and event planning for stakeholder engagement.
- Operations & Compliance Oversight Supervise grant compliance and tracking systems. Ensure adherence to County policies, procedures, and reporting requirements. Coordinate efforts with lobbyists and government affairs teams to align strategies with evolving funding landscapes.
- Staff & Performance Management Provide leadership and direction for staff, including onboarding, coaching, training, and career development. Develop program staffing strategies to implement and manage awarded projects.
- Communication & Advocacy Present to senior officials and decision-makers to advocate for climate initiatives. Develop and implement strategic communications and outreach to enhance visibility and community engagement.
- Technology Proficiency Use software tools and IT solutions to support data analysis, communication, and reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following: Doctoral Degree in one of the physical or natural sciences, environmental studies, engineering, or related field, or Master’s Degree in one of the physical or natural sciences, environmental studies, engineering, or related field, and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in resilience or sustainability programs/initiatives, or Bachelor’s Degree in one of the physical or natural sciences, environmental studies, engineering, or related field, and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in resilience or sustainability programs/initiatives, or An unrelated Bachelor’s Degree or a related Associate’s Degree and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in resilience or sustainability programs/initiatives, or Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification and a minimum of six (6) years of experience in resilience or sustainability programs/initiatives.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Highly preferred qualifications for this position include experience: Developing successful grant funding proposals, grant management, and grant administration Creating and strengthening strategic partnerships with local and regional stakeholders to collaborate on resiliency funding and program opportunities Designing solutions for local government sustainability and climate change adaptation, and mitigation issues.
