Child Nutrition Manager
(10 Month)
Summary
To provide palatable and nutritious meals to all students in a cost-effective manner and to incorporate concepts of good nutrition as a part of the total education program.
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Qualifications
It is desirable that the child nutrition assistant possesses a basic knowledge of quantity food preparation and customer service skills; prefer school lunch experience. The child nutrition assistant will need to work well under pressure; meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. The child nutrition assistant will need to, at all times, demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, and supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
FISCAL MANAGEMENT
The manager is responsible for accurately counting and claiming meals and for accurately counting and depositing monies collected of items sold in cafeterias.
REPORTS/RECORDKEEPING
The manager is responsible for accurate reporting on timesheets, for being in compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines, and for maintaining and submitting all required records and reports.
FOOD PRODUCTION AND SERVICE
The manager supervises the preparation and service of high-quality nutritious meals.
PURCHASING, STORAGE, INVENTORY OF FOOD AND SUPPLIES
The manager assures that food, supplies, and equipment are adequate; that an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all products is maintained; and that all food supplies and equipment are received and stored according to local, state, and federal guidelines.
PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT
The manager supervises the cafeteria staff to ensure an efficient operation. Supervision activities include evaluating and documenting performances, providing training experiences, and participating in the hiring of staff.
SANITATION AND SAFETY
The manager promotes and maintains high standards of sanitation, promotes safety awareness, and demonstrates acceptable personal grooming practices.
FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT
The manager is responsible for maintaining equipment and facilities in a safe operable condition and assumes appropriate accountability of equipment.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
The manager communicates effectively with various school administrators, teachers, and parents and ensures a positive atmosphere and image of the cafeteria and cafeteria staff.
NUTRITION EDUCATION
The manager provides nutrition information to local school personnel and students.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The manager is knowledgeable of current developments in school foodservice and shares with other child nutrition staff.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
The manager accepts the responsibility for other duties assigned.
Physical Environment The child nutrition manager will need to be able to tolerate exposure to higher-than-average room temperature, humidity, tolerate noise, movement, and a fast-paced environment.
The child nutrition manager will need to be able to tolerate cleaning supplies and odors associated with these cleaning agents.
The child nutrition manager will need to be able to lift, pull, or push up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The incumbent will need to be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, hold; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee is frequently required to talk and hear.
The employee is occasionally required to balance or climb. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
