Brief Summary of Work for this Position The Center for the Support of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (CSURF) is housed within the Office of High Impact Practices. CSURF maintains a close relationship with the UNCW Honors College in their support of all undergraduate research and scholarship across the institution. CSURF is the point of contact for approximately 18,000 students from over 250 majors.
This position will be charged with overseeing the full lifecycle of undergraduate research training grants (such as NSF REUs), with both pre- and post-award responsibilities. This position will identify funding opportunities and coordinate with appropriate faculty and units to prepare documents and budgets of competitive applications. For post-award, this position will monitor budgets, prepare reports, and manage the closeout of grants. The Research Administrator will report to the Associate Director of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships. Additionally, the Research Administrator will be expected to work closely with the Research Development Office, Pre- and Post- Award Specialists from the Sponsored Programs team, and other research operations groups across campus.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Preferred education, professional skills and experience Graduate degree
3 or more years of related experience working in grant management, research administration, project management, or grant writing
University experience sufficient to earn the trust and respect of faculty across disciplines
Experience with the NSF, NIH, and/or private foundations
Experience with platforms such as grants.gov, eRA Commons, InfoEd, etc
Ability to find, synthesize, and communicate relevant information in an organized, comprehensive, manner, including funding agency specifics such as guidelines, eligibility, and submission protocols
Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong organizational and self-management skills, including tracking multi-step processes and multi-year timelines
Ability to multitask
Strong ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate with team
