Job Description

Director for Grants and Government Relations 4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 900 Lakewood Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701 The Director G/GR is a strong project manager responsible for proactively researching 1) government (federal, state, local grants), and 2) corporate and foundation funding opportunities and executing grant proposals to secure financial support from these entities for university priorities. The Director G/GR is responsible for the procedural work that accompanies collaborations with administration, faculty, and staff to develop strategic grant programs and research projects appropriate for government/private funding. The Director G/GR is responsible for the overall grants management process and, when awarded, ensures contract compliance and completion of pre- and post-award requirements. The Director G/GR will be responsible for tracking federal government relations issues related to and affecting HEIs and help facilitate interactions with government agencies.

Essential Functions:

Proactively and independently research and identify potential government (federal, state, local) and corporate/foundation funding sources; develop government/private funding strategies; monitor government/private funding trends. Work collaboratively with administration, faculty, and staff to develop university government/private grant priorities, including program and scholarship support, research projects, and grant budgets. Write, prepare, and submit government (federal, state, local) and private grant proposals. Coordinate and manage the internal processes for government/private grants, including handling internal government grant proposal requests, securing approvals for submissions, managing record-keeping and supportive documentation, and assisting with initial stages of grant implementation. Participate in working groups to plan, coordinate, and execute government/private grant priorities and procedures. Responsible for tracking government relations issues related to and affecting HEIs and helping to facilitate interactions with government agencies (meetings, drafting correspondence, etc.) Awarded Grants Support the principal investigator during the award/contract process Track critical deadlines to ensure contract and budgetary requirements are met. Collaborate with co-workers and respond to grant makers requests for additional information In collaboration with principal investigators, develop, prepare and distribute grant-funded program reports to communicate results, achievement of deliverables and outcomes to comply with donor reporting requirements. Track and report on successful grant outcomes/impact stories. In compliance with funded awards, ensure expected announcement/communications efforts are executed. Keep government (SAM.org, grants.gov; NJ.gov, etc.) portals and accounts up-to-date. Works closely with AVP on grants that 1) impact stewardship relationships and encourage future funding opportunities, and 2) assist in identifying and applying for funding opportunities that support unfunded portions of awarded initiatives. Experience with web- and electronic-based document management tools and practices including grant management systems (GMS) or other relationship databases. Track all activities and actions in Raiser’s Edge 7/NXT. Integrate the core values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice and service in all aspects of interaction. Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree (master’s preferred) in related area Minimum of 3 years related experience Excellent internal and external customer service skills Extensive knowledge of grant writing and government/private proposal development, including budget development, reporting and correspondence, and a keen understanding of grant outcomes and deliverables. Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of written communication skills and interpersonal relations skills in order to determine the most effective proposals and presentation materials to persuade institutional personnel to accept suggestions and proposals, and to foster effective relationships between funding sources and the institution. Commitment to a “team environment.” Knowledge of university marketing and communications. Knowledge of governmental relations. Broad knowledge of fundraising. Skills in proposal and publication development with writing and editing experience preferable for a non-profit organization. Skills in writing for a variety of audiences. Ability to write/edit in a variety of writing styles, ability to draft materials on a wide range of topics. Strong editing and proofreading skills. The ability to translate complex technical language and ideas into language easily comprehensible to non-specialists. Skills in interviewing a variety of people and gathering and synthesizing information from many sources. The successful candidate will have demonstrated organizational skills and be able to track large volumes of information related to grant reconciliations and reporting required by funders with due dates. Demonstrated planning skills a must. Ability to use a variety of software applications, Raiser’s Edge preferred.

Flexible schedule:

Option to work condensed work week (4 days) or 1 day remote. •
