Job Description

The Research Foundation for SUNY, a private, not-for-profit organization, seeks a director for the Potsdam Institute for Applied Research (PIAR) to begin May 2025. PIAR is a university-based research institute with a mission to provide high-quality, cost-effective data collection, evaluation, survey, reporting and other research services to communities, schools, and agencies in the region, state and nation.

The director will:

Seek, evaluate, and secure new external grant funding for research projectsSupervise the execution of existing grant projects, especially those related to Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) state-level indicators data collection and reportingWork with advisory board to engage faculty and students in research in the physical and social sciences, arts and humanitiesProvide consulting and technical advice to faculty engaged in research or applying for grant funded projectsExercise sound scientific/disciplinary knowledge to implement new projects, including budget management, study design, and data reportingPerform administrative duties of the Center related to staff supervision, strategic planning, budget oversight and resources management, assessment, compliance, and communication with stakeholdersRequired qualifications:

A doctoral degree in any social scienceA record of publishing peer-reviewed researchA track record of successfully obtaining grant fundingUnderstanding the basic social science statistical methodsExperience supervising data collection in a research settingPreferred qualifications:

Have research and/or teaching experience related to special education servicesHave experience with IDEA indicator data collection and/or reportingHave experience teaching undergrad and/or graduate research methodsHave direct experience with survey researchProfessional experience that includes office management and staff supervisionSalary range for this 12-month position is $75,000-$85.000.
