Trail Technician 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 250 Dairy Barn Lane, Fort Mill, SC 29715 OVERVIEW The Trails Technician will enjoy working outdoors. This position will assist with maintenance and construction of natural surface trails on the Greenway.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Performs regularly scheduled inspections and maintenance of assigned hiking, biking and equestrian trails including trail tread and moisture content, bridge conditions, signage, clearing downed trees, mowing, litter pickup, line trimming, impacts to natural resources, and maintaining trail corridor to operational standards Performs landscape and other maintenance duties (i.e. mowing, limbing, trimming, deburming weeding, pruning and weed control) Applies chemical herbicides as required Monitors overall trail area for proper and/or unauthorized use; determines trail conditions and communicates to supervisor regarding public notification of trail use status Clears and constructs new trails and reroutes of existing trails Understands and applies sustainable trail design and maintenance methods for trails and natural land bridges Assists in the construction of trail structures such as bridges, staircases, fences, retaining walls and boardwalks Participates in volunteer trail days; recommends work agendas and assignments for volunteers. Ensures needed tools and supplies are available and ensures PPE protocol is followed Performs minor mechanical and carpentry maintenance repairs on equipment as required Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and

Ability to safely operate and maintain a variety of equipment (i.e. mower, tractor, excavator, skid-steer, mechanic tools, weed eater, chainsaws, other various hand and power tools, etc.) Understand and exercises proper use of PPE Understands and applies land management concepts Above average public relations skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with a wide variety of people (staff, volunteers, members and guests) and circumstances in a professional manner Knowledgeable of ASC Greenway property, programs and offerings

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold and seasonal high temperatures for prolonged periods. Exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, vibration. The noise level in the work environment is often loud. Regularly walks; uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms; climbs or balances; stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls; and talks and hears. Occasionally stands and sits. Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves more than 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to operate a mountain or road bike at intermediate levels in advanced riding terrain in a variety of riding conditions. High-level physical job.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

(PPE)

FOR TRAIL MAINTENANCE TASKS

First aid kit, sturdy work gloves, and sturdy leather work boots. Use of any gasoline-operated power tool/equipment will also require the proper use of eye protection and hearing protection. Additionally, in the case of chainsaw operation, a hard hat and saw chaps are also required for the faller (boots, gloves, hardhat, eye protection, and hearing protection required as needed).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record
