Transportation Material Handler Job Description The Transportation Material Handler is responsible for following stacking, moving, and storage processes to ensure the safe transport of trailers. This role involves operating overhead cranes, securing loads with steel banding and straps, and working closely with a team to ensure efficiency and safety in transportation logistics. Responsibilities Follow stacking, moving, and storage processes to ensure trailers are securely strapped and will not move during shipment. Operate and position overhead cranes manually or mechanically to load trailers for transport. Apply steel banding, straps, saran wrap, and tape to secure trailers, parts, and accessories. Work as part of a team by communicating and collaborating with teammates. Inspect loads to ensure proper banding, stacking, and storage. Drive a tractor to safely move trailers between lots. Hook tractors to trailer hitches and fasten attachments such as winch cables and hitch pins. Operate hand tools, including banding tools, staple guns, and drills. Use hand tools to build transport blocks and cover them with carpet. Install parts or attachments in transportation or material handling equipment. Remove or attach wheels before or after transport. Operate hand scanners to track inventory of trailers and their locations. Communicate with drivers to ensure proper loads are picked up and secured. Ensure compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Complete additional duties and cross-training activities as assigned. Essential Skills Experience with forklifts and material handling equipment. Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual labor. Proficiency in inventory management and warehouse operations. Work Environment This role operates in a warehouse setting, utilizing various hand tools and equipment such as overhead cranes and forklifts. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maryville, Tennessee. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 – $18.00/hr.
