Laborer/Field Technician Pearlington Water & Sewer District Pearlington, MS 39572
Overview:
Pearlington Water & Sewer District is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Laborer/Field Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Lead Technician, performing a variety of tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer systems. This role involves physical labor, working with raw sewage, and maintaining equipment and facilities. Candidates with equipment operation experience and prior industry experience are highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Lead Technician in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer systems. Perform physical labor, including digging, lifting, and carrying materials, to support system maintenance and repairs. Handle and work safely with raw sewage in compliance with safety protocols. Operate and maintain equipment such as pumps, valves, and other system components. Perform groundskeeping tasks, including mowing and landscaping around district facilities. Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment and systems. Follow all safety guidelines and regulations to ensure a safe working environment. Assist with emergency response and repair tasks as needed. Maintain accurate records of work performed and report issues to the Lead Technician. Complete workorders and documentation detailing work performed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience in water, sewer, or related utility industry is a plus. Experience operating equipment (e.g., backhoes, mowers, or other machinery) is highly desirable. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and handling raw sewage. Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to follow instructions. Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn system maintenance tasks. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
Preferred Skills:
Prior experience in water or sewer system maintenance. Familiarity with operating and maintaining heavy equipment or machinery. Knowledge of safety protocols when working with hazardous materials or in confined spaces.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily outdoors, with exposure to various weather conditions, raw sewage, and potentially hazardous environments. Must be able to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or emergency call-outs. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn as required.
