LOCATION
Jersey City, NJ SHIFTS:
Inbound Shift
- Monday thru Friday 1am start time working 8
- 10 hours a day SUMMARY This position is responsible for the successful movement of freight across the dock.
As part of this movement, the dockworker is to adhere to all dock safety regulations regarding the movement of freight with designated equipment, such as a forklift. Furthermore, the dockworker is to follow all standard operating procedures regarding the completion of dock paperwork and dock cleanliness.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Pre-tripping forklifts. Pre-loading and posting unloading trailer inspections. Safely unloading freight from trailers either using a forklift or manually. Safely loading freight into trailers either using a forklift or manually. Ensuring that freight moved matches all aspects of the associated movement bill or cross dock. Complying with all aspects of dock paperwork procedures while moving freight. Attending all regularly scheduled safety meetings. Attending all regularly scheduled training meetings. Ensuring that the dock and associated areas are kept clean. Maintain a clean and orderly work area and safe environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Prior experience preferred. Must be able to drive a forklift.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Good command of the English language a must. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one
- or two-step instructions.
Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be forklift certified and have successfully completed the Dock Training Program.
