Full-Time Non-ExemptJob Summary –

Transfer Station:

Identify and remove recyclable items from non-recyclables, i.e. sorting cardboard and/or other materials in preparation for baling. Utilizes proper methods of separating and depositing of sorted materials. Observe and follow all safety procedures while performing separation duties. Maintain cleanliness of the areas in and around the Transfer Station. Must be physically fit. Daily work is repetitive and physically strenuous. Subjected to daily weather conditions; i.e. heat and cold. Shifts are scheduled daily, based on the needs of the company, and can average 8 to 9 hours per day. All work is performed under direct supervision. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Throwing/tossing of cardboard and/or other recycling materials up to 6 feet.

Constant bending, stooping, and picking up of recyclables and/or other materials.

Continuous gripping with hands.

Walking and/or standing for long periods of time.

Moving at a fast and consistent pace.

Essential Functions:

Sorting of items for recycling and tossing materials into designated areas.

Follow safe work practices, safety rules, and protocols.

Understand and report any safety related issues to the supervisor immediately.

Maintain an excellent attendance record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment.

Ability to understand and follow all safety procedures.

Courteously interact with co-workers, and supervision.

Working in extreme cold or heat.

Physical, Mental, and Visual Demands:

Constantly standing, stooping, bending, reaching, and gripping with hands, lifting above the waist.

Light mental and visual attention is required to performing work where there is some variation of the procedure. Able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time.

Working around moving vehicles and equipment.

Requirements:

Strong work ethic.

Safety minded attitude.

Good hand eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Able to stand for long periods of time.

Wearing of steel-toed boots with slip resistant soles, jeans/work pants and shirts with sleeves.

Reliable means of transportation a must.

Environmental Conditions:

Exposure to residential and commercial waste and recycling.

Exposure to noise, dust, odors, fumes, mists, or gases.

There is sufficient noise at times to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

Variable work environment temperatures (cold or heat).Exposure to equipment traffic.
