DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for operating equipment and vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more, while also engaging in manual labor related to the operation and upkeep of a state forest district. This role requires a combination of technical skills and physical endurance, as you will be tasked with not only driving heavy machinery but also performing essential maintenance tasks that ensure the smooth functioning of the forest district. Your expertise will contribute significantly to the management and preservation of the natural resources within the area, making it crucial to adhere to safety protocols and operational guidelines. Additionally, you will collaborate with other team members to implement effective strategies for forest management, which may include tasks such as clearing trails, maintaining equipment, and supporting conservation efforts. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Seasonal, full-time employment without benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2025 until November 2025 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2026. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirement:

This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Condition or Employment:

This position requires possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the air brakes endorsement.
