DEFINITION
The employee is responsible for performing landscape maintenance tasks of a semi-skilled or skilled nature; operating mowers and weed eating. The employee performs a variety of manual labor tasks in the areas of both streets and sanitation. The employee is under the direct supervision of the Forman and general supervision of Public Works Director. Instructions to the employee are generally specific, however, there will be times when the employee must perform any other tasks as may be required to accomplish the essential functions as set out herein. Work schedule is
MONDAY – THURSDAY, 6AM-4
30PM.

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION
- Required to operate light duty vehicles, riding or push mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, rakes, shovels, hand tools, etc.
- Work is performed mainly outdoors, and some tasks will be performed regardless of weather conditions.
- May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, toxic substances, foul odors, loud noise, dirt, dust, sharp tools, and machinery with moving parts.
- Required to lift, carry, dig, climb, bend and move moderately to very heavy objects weighing more than 25 pounds.
- Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, and walking is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Physical activities include climbing, stooping, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, handling, grasping, and repetitive motions
- This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally.
- Also includes the necessity to communicate by talking, hearing/listening.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus, for operation of machines and equipment, determination accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observation of general surroundings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
1. Performs a variety of general labor duties such as mowing, weed spraying, litter pickup, brush and weed trimming and street maintenance. 2. Performs routine and repetitive work as part of a crew in collecting garbage, refuse and other waste materials. 3. Removes debris from street rights-of-way, catch basins, drainage ways and other City property. 4. Must perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under some unfavorable climatic conditions. 5. Loads and unloads dirt, gravel, trash, refuse and other debris. 6. Operates mowing machines and other small machinery. 7. Cleans, maintains and services equipment and tools. 8. May be required to drive a light duty vehicle. 9. Performs all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of practices used in the operation of equipment. 2. Knowledge of grounds maintenance. 3. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. 4. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and members of the general public. 5. Ability to carry out instructions. 6. Ability to work with machinery and sharp tools.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 18 years old to apply.
- A valid Tennessee driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects on a repetitive basis.
- Safety shoes must be worn at all times.
- Must pass a physical, drug screen test, and background check.
