1. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Counseling, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. 2. A minimum of three years of successful experience in a secondary setting working with students with special needs in the realm of transition. 3. Strong understanding of transition issues related to students with diverse needs. 4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 5. Ability to plan, organize, and implement transition programs effectively. 6. Knowledge of community resources and support services available to students. 7. Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive educational environment.
Reports to:
Director of Special Education and High School Principal Performance Responsibilities:
Coordinate and administer all aspects of the special education student career preparation, transition services, employability and Turning Points Program oversight. Coordinates with the teachers and job coach in regard to the logistics and parameters of the work schedule. Serves as a liaison/mediator for any school-site/workplace. Seeks out appropriate employment or job training opportunities for students with disabilities in the surrounding communities. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of transition strategies and adapt as needed. Act as a liaison between schools, families, and community resources. Maintain home/school communications needed to ensure student success within the school setting. Promote the teaching of skills and behaviors needed by the individual students to achieve job training and post-secondary employment Perform other duties deemed appropriate and necessary in successfully implementing the program Coordinates transition program with Samford University and other institutions of higher learning. Monitors health and safety provisions, ensuring a safe workplace and learning environment. Participates in Annual Review and Transition conferences as requested. Performs other duties as may be required by the Board of Education.
