Job Description

Tuscaloosa City Schools Coordinator of Transportation 3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars Tuscaloosa, AL Coordinator of Transportation Job Goal To support the efficient, safe, and effective operation of the district’s transportation services by assisting the Director of Transportation in planning, implementing, and supervising daily transportation functions. To ensure timely and secure student transportation through optimized routing, compliance with safety regulations, staff management, and coordination with schools and families, while contributing to strategic planning for future district transportation needs.

QUALIFICATIONS 1. B.S./B.A.

degree preferred or equivalent job experience. 2. A minimum of three (3) years experience and/or training in school transportation preferred with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience. 3. Valid Alabama CDL and school bus driver’s license. 4. Knowledge of computers and current computer routing system preferred. 5. Must pass and is subject to drug test as required by federal and state law and the Board’s policies regarding drug testing. 6. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 . 7. Such alternatives as the board may find appropriate.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 1.

Ability to be proficient in the area of staff, student, parental and public relations. 2. Ability to use maps and charts to route transportation needs. 3. Knowledge of streets and roads in the area. 4. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment of being physically qualified to operate a school bus under the Alabama Act 2012-372. 5. Physical dexterity, coordination, mobility and visual acuity to perform the essential functions of the position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.

Assists the Director of Transportation in the operation of the transportation department. 2. Oversees operations when the Director of Transportation is out of the office or absent. 3. Assists with the interviewing and the selection of all transportation personnel. 4. Evaluates the performance of transportation personnel in accordance with Board policy. 5. Establishes bus stops and routes. 6. Works with school personnel in assigning students to routes. 7. Assist the School district in strategic planning for transportation. 8. Creates regular and special needs routes in consultation with the Director of Transportation. 9. Assists drivers with information including directions and student lists of the routes 10. Reviews all routes with drivers to keep information accurate in the computerized routing system. 11. Interviews drivers following accidents and incidents to prepare a written statement to be submitted to proper authorities. 12. Periodically rides on bus routes to accurately assess the routes. 13. Performs an annual review of the routes and makes appropriate changes to the routes based on any changes that are expected (each summer). 14. Meets with drivers regarding concerns and complaints relative to their job performance. 15. Assists with local groups to provide information about the transportation system, including assignment of students and safety programs. 16. Assists Director in the inspection of bus stops and routes for safety and economic issues. 17. Using the computerized routing system, assists the school district in planning and forecasting development in the school district 18. Assist local schools in the assignment of students into the properly zoned school. 19. Takes leave in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to the district’s absence management system 20. Reports to work on time and regularly as designated by work schedule. 21. Assumes any other job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy Manual , Students First Act and the Board’s Salary Schedule – Transportation – Coordinator of Transportation.

EVALUATION

Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
