Job Summary:

The Supply Chain Specialist – Hard and Live Goods is responsible for the planning, procurement, inventory management, and supplier coordination of both hardline products (e.g., containers, tools, fixtures) and live goods (e.g., plants, veggies, floral) within the live goods space. This role ensures optimal product availability, quality standards, and cost efficiency across the supply chain network, supporting retail and merchandising operations with a customer-first mindset.

Duties/Responsibilities Procurement & Sourcing:

Source, negotiate, and manage vendor relationships for both hard goods and live goods, ensuring timely delivery and competitive pricing. Analyze supplier performance and quality metrics; implement corrective actions as needed. Maintain compliance with agricultural, shipping, and safety regulations for live goods.

Inventory & Logistics Management:

Coordinate with growers, vendors, and distribution centers to ensure accurate order fulfillment and on-time deliveries. Monitor inventory levels and anticipate demand to prevent stockouts or overages, particularly for time-sensitive live goods. Collaborate with transportation providers to optimize shipping schedules, temperature-controlled deliveries, and route efficiency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with merchandising, sales, and store operations to align product flow with seasonal and promotional demand. Support new product rollouts and transitions between seasonal assortments. Partner with quality control teams to ensure live goods meet health, freshness, and presentation standards upon delivery.

Data & Reporting:

Analyze supply chain data to drive continuous improvement in cost, quality, and service levels. Prepare and deliver reports on procurement trends, vendor performance, and product availability. Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, delivery timelines, and inventory adjustments.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Agriculture, or related field. 3+ years of experience in supply chain or procurement, preferably in live goods, horticulture, or retail distribution. Strong understanding of the unique handling and logistics of perishable live goods. Proficient in ERP systems and/or supply chain software tools. Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to travel occasionally to vendor sites or distribution centers.

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with live plant merchandising cycles and retail garden center operations. Experience working with growers, greenhouses, or live product suppliers. Working knowledge of temperature-sensitive shipping and agricultural regulations.
