is one of nine centers for independent living in Georgia. LIFE advocates personal responsibility – by, and for, people with disabilities – as a means to independence. To help consumers achieve self-sufficiency, LIFE offers comprehensive programs including independent living skills training, information and referral, peer support, advocacy, transition services, and home modification/assistive technology. LIFE is looking for someone to lead the Students for LIFE program, a youth transition program primarily embedded in the schools, into its next phase. The Students for LIFE program is one LIFE’s flagship programs, and we are looking for a dynamic facilitator to shepherd its continued growth and expansion. Qualifications Possess work experience in a classroom teaching setting or in an instructional capacity of some sort where work with consumers/clients. Possess a driver’s license and reliable transportation that allows for travel to counties served by LIFE. Possess lived experience with a disability and/or experience serving in a personal or professional role supporting people with disabilities Possess a passion for working with young people with disabilities. Possess a bachelor’s Degree in the field of study relevant to the provision of Independent Living Services or at least one year of experience in the direct delivery of human services. Personal experience in independent living and/or a personal experience with living with a disability may be substituted for certain education or work requirements Possess familiarity and ability to use digital platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, online databases, and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to pass a background check. Responsibilities The Students for LIFE responsibilities will be the primary tasks associated with this position. However, the Students for LIFE coordinator will be expected to engage in the Secondary Job Duties during the 37.5 hour work week when such duties do not conflict with Primary Job responsibilities. This position reports to the Executive Director. Primary Help facilitate the Students for LIFE Program by leading, co-teaching and offering in-person and distance learning to program participants within the LIFE service areas in variety of classroom-like settings, which may include area schools, agencies, and institutions of higher learning. Create a friendly atmosphere for students to learn in and encourage creativity, guide and teach students from a wide range of topics, utilize the existing curriculum and handouts to create lessons and, with the assistance of other LIFE staff members, continue to develop and grow the curriculum as well as adapt it to the needs of each setting. Network in the community to develop possible new locations for lesson delivery. Document time worked and services rendered in online database system. Programmatic information will include participant attendance and lesson retention, time spent developing and delivering lessons, and any other outcome measurement required by LIFE or third-party funders. Work with other LIFE staff members to bridge the Pathways to Partnerships efforts which target 6th-8th grade students to the high school-aged delivery of Students for LIFE. Secondary Assist Consumers with development of goals and independent living plans. Support Nursing Home Transition clients with transition out of institutional setting. Attend community meetings as a representative of LIFE and capture information for staff/consumer use. Attend internal staff meetings as scheduled. Support coworker efforts in delivering consumer services across LIFE’s programs. Salary:
$15.00-$16.00/hour commensurate with qualifications; benefits (presently life insurance and health insurance fully paid by LIFE and availability of dental and vision insurance at cost to employee) vest at the conclusion of a 90-day trial period Resumes accepted until the position is filled.
