This position is located in the Division 11 Equipment shop in Wilkes County. Employee will provide office support assistance to the Administrative Specialist I and parts room. Duties will include data entry of posting invoices in SAP system, record keeping, filing, handling of incoming and outgoing mail, answering telephone, taking messages, directing calls to appropriate personnel, assisting public with inquiries/concerns via telephone and personal office contact. This position also consists of ordering, receiving & issuing parts for the Equipment Shop, unloading shipments from vendors/division shop and assisting with physical inventory. This position may require lifting up to 50lbs and moving heavy objects. Ability to operate a State vehicle is needed for this position. May be required to work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, times of emergency, and during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. Must be able to use a Windows-based computer with proficiency in Microsoft Office products and other general office duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Customer service experience, including resolving customer issues
Experience with Microsoft Office using programs such as Access, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
Experience with physical inventory maintenance procedures (i.e. daily, and annual spot checks/counting)
Experience with data entry including invoicing and purchasing requisitions
Experience with medium-duty truck and forklift operation

Additional Expectations:

Employee must possess a general knowledge of office procedures and record keeping. Ability to accurately use computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, etc. Ability to work independently and maintain and organize records. Ability to accurately perform math calculations. Ability to communicate and respond to all inquiries and instructions to ensure positive public and employee relations. Ability to be resourceful and able to schedule and coordinate a variety of work tasks at the same time. The applicant must have the ability to operate a computer terminal and should know how to work in MS Word. Knowledge of the materials and parts used in the repair and maintenance of light to heavy construction equipment is preferred. Employee must perform work in accordance with NCDOT workplace safety policy and practices. Position may require work during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc., which can lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required.
