General Statement of Job
Under the supervision of the Director of Transportation Services, the Operations and Special Programs Coordinator plans, implements and oversees daily operations of the district’s transportation plan including daily bus routes, special programs, instructional, and extra-curricular field experiences to enhance the instructional curriculum. As part of these duties the Coordinator will work closely with the Director to ensure all federal, state, and local requirements are in compliance and meeting the set standards. The Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating special events and programs with school administration and other administrative departments to ensure safe and reliable transportation services are available to all Richland One students. This includes working closely with principals and department heads to identify needs and potential new opportunities to serve the interests of our diverse district and community.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions:

Coordinates with the site supervisors of all transportation operations
Coordinates with the management staff timely and relevant safety meetings and trainings for all staff.
Evaluates and supervises the site supervisors, as well as assist with all personnel matters.
Evaluates and supervises the district activity driver team.
Implements and coordinates the field Trip system and Special Needs transportation programs.
Acts as a liaison and ambassador between school personnel and all stakeholders to resolve transportation questions and concerns.
Works cooperatively with the management team to design, develop, and implements instructional and training programs that inform and instruct the district’s faculty and staff in topics related to school bus safety, and student management.
Coordinates the completion of state and district level reports and requests.
Conducts ongoing and annual audits of bus related accidents and incidents.
Works with the sites and Risk Management for the ongoing post-accident random drug/alcohol screen tests for staff.
Coordinates and responds to after-hours emergency/non-emergency calls.
Works actively and cooperatively with the school leadership and staff to coordinate safe and secure bus loading/unloading procedures and operations. Work with the Director in budget preparation and related resources in the department.
Liaison between the Fleet Motor Department and coordinates service and maintenance schedule of departmental vehicles including district owned school buses.
Monitors and responds to radio calls for assistance in both emergency and non-­-emergency situations.
Provides operational support for response to crises with district, city, county, and state law enforcement divisions. Understands and explains district and department policies and procedures to staff and external stakeholders.
Assist Safety Manager in planning and implementing the Annual In-service Training and monthly safety meetings. Also, assists in investigations related to incidents/accidents on school buses. Reviews programs, policies, procedures, and practices and provides input to supervisor for improvements and/or efficiencies. Works independently; prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Liaison with district vendors that provided various services to the district such as routing, GPS, field trip software and applications.
Complies with all federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and directives.
Represent the department in the Director’s absence. Second in the chain of command in the department. This could include attendance at conferences and training meetings in the district or out of district. It may involve overnight travel and after hours.
Performs related duties as required. Minimum Education and Training Requires a four-year degree in education, transportation logistics, management, or a related field with at least three years of experience in a K-12 environment. Maintaining a CDL license with Passenger/School Bus endorsements preferred.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including a computer, telephone, audio-visual equipment, and vehicle. Must be able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of up to fifty pounds. Must be physically able to be trained in appropriate physical restraint as provided by the school system.
