16768 Job Description Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the project management and business services fields as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy (DOE) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of our customer’s mission. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the ORNL in Oak Ridge, TN. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratory. Pay, benefits, Human resource, and employment management functions are provided by AIS. Qualified applicants must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the DOE. The ideal candidate is responsible for developing and implementing logistics strategies that ensure programs remain ahead of schedule and operate efficiently. This critical role will oversee the entire material lifecycle, from procurement and inventory control to warehousing, shipping, and logistics. The ideal candidate possesses a strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of driving efficiency and process improvements in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Develop and recommend logistics strategies to improve processes and program timelines.
Assess, manage, and mitigate risks within logistics operations.
Analyze logistics plans to enhance workflow and efficiency in production, distribution, and inventory.
Create and review procedures related to distribution and inventory management to optimize customer satisfaction and cost-effectiveness.
Conduct distribution and network studies to assess inventory levels and delivery requirements.
Monitor inventory and analyze logistics data to support strategic planning for improved order fulfillment and delivery performance.
Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports on logistics activities and performance.
Coordinate and collaborate with internal departments and external customers to ensure seamless logistics operations.
Work under general supervision to resolve moderately complex issues, escalating more complex challenges to senior staff. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
2 to 4 years of progressive experience in material management, demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of industry best practices and principles, preferably within a DOE or government contracting environment.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, inspire, and manage a high-performing team.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop effective solutions.
Proficient in logistics software (SAP & FSC) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Pre-employment Drug Screen – External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
Medical Exam(s) – Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position.
