POSITION SUMMARY
This position is accountable for directing activities of workers concerned with construction of buildings, foundations, or other construction projects. Performs support, oversight and coordination functions for and among multiple projects. The Area General Superintendent (AGS) must have the ability and flexibility to work varying shifts and long hours. Weekend work may occur according to production needs. The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork most importantly, with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity .
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Drives strong safety culture among all job sites. Works with field Safety Team to ensure that regular safety meetings are effectively conducted and attended by all employees. Ensures that all safety protocols are followed to prevent injuries. Manages and mentors employees and ensures active on-the-job training. This includes hiring, training, promoting, transferring, and discharging field personnel as necessary. Works closely with jobsite supervision and project management to 1) Manage and meet the job schedules; and 2) Assist as necessary in development and coordination of manpower, material, and equipment schedules. Staff’s projects to achieve successful outcomes. Troubleshoots and resolves constructability concerns with project team. Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction. Assembles members of organization (supervisory, project management, clerical, engineering, and other workers) at start of project as necessary. Ensures proper planning and ordering of procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules. Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays. Confers with supervisory personnel and Human Resources to resolve complaints and grievances within work force. Confers with customers, supervisory, engineering personnel, inspectors and suppliers of tools and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods. Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules. Prepares or reviews reports on progress, labor and materials used and costs and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports. Performs special projects and complete all other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency arise.
