Position Summary:
Grid Structures is seeking a highly capable and hands-on Shop Superintendent to lead day-to-day operations of our steel fabrication shop. This role is critical in ensuring safety, production throughput, quality standards, and workforce leadership across the facility. The ideal candidate will be a tough-but fair leader who is data-driven, production-minded, and capable of building strong teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and direct all shop operations, including processing, fitting, and welding.
Supervise and support foremen in managing daily crew activities and meeting production targets.
Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Oversee quality control processes and address fabrication issues in real time.
Monitor production metrics and drive output, efficiency, and on-time delivery performance.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and disciplinary processes as needed.
Serve as a liaison between the shop and other departments (project management, engineering, purchasing).
Maintain a strong floor presence (approx. 80% shop / 20% office) to resolve problems, motivate teams, and maintain momentum.
Foster accountability, promote team morale, and address performance issues proactively.
Use fabrication drawings and MRP software (Tekla PowerFab) to track and guide job progress.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Proven experience managing a structural or industrial fabrication shop.
Strong working knowledge of welding, fabrication, and reading detailed technical drawings.
Prior experience in transmission pole or substation structure fabrication preferred but not required.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage throughput, and maintain a safe work environment.
Comfortable with production tracking systems and decision-making based on performance data.
