Legal Affairs; +2 Other Executive; Other Administrative Positions The Center for Academic Freedom and Free Speech at Yale Law School seeks to hire an Executive Director. The Director may start anytime between now and September 2025. Please submit your application as soon as possible. The Executive Director will work closely with the center’s Faculty Director, Professor Keith Whittington, to curate and oversee the center’s daily operations, programming, and numerous projects and initiatives. The center helps track emerging threats to academic freedom, advocate for policies to protect free speech and academic freedom, foster a better understanding of and appreciation for the principles of free speech and free inquiry, and support scholarly and public conversations on critical issues relating to free speech and academic freedom. Together with administrative staff, research assistants, and affiliated faculty from across the university, the Executive Director will manage the center’s scholarly projects, communications, and events. The executive director will also serve as a spokesperson and liaison between the center and its many constituencies, including students, faculty, alumni, staff and more. This is an exciting and dynamic role with opportunities to shape the center’s strategic growth. Remote work may be possible for exceptional candidates—if approved by the Provost–with some travel to New Haven for events. Please note that remote work from the State of California will not be approved. Skills and experience Demonstrated expertise or interest in Free Speech, First Amendment Studies, and Academic Freedom.
Outstanding communication and collaboration skills and ability to maintain important relationships with many constituencies.
Excellent organizational skills, ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously and execute on deadlines.
Experience with or openness to long-term strategic planning and fundraising. Education J.D. or advanced degree in a related field strongly preferred.
