The Executive Director of the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce will serve as the visionary leader responsible for driving membership growth, creating innovative partnerships, and developing events that support the Chamber’s mission of fostering economic growth and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have a passion for collaboration, a deep understanding of the local business and political landscape, and a talent for organizing engaging programs that attract and retain members. The Executive Director will work with the Board and Board Committees to establish vision, policies, strategic focus, priorities, and general scope of programs the center will deliver.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce. The Executive Director is responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Chamber which includes submission to the Board of an annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization. The Director is responsible for fiscal management that operates within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization towards a positive financial position.
- Identify and cultivate partnerships with local businesses, government entities, and community organizations to create mutually beneficial initiatives.
The Executive Director will be required to attend events on behalf of the Chamber outside of normal business hours including nights and weekends. Develop innovative marketing campaigns and action plans that increase the Chamber’s visibility and value within the community while promoting local businesses through collaborative programs and cross-promotional opportunities.
- The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for the achieving new member recruitment and existing member retention goals. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to increase the Chamber membership. Engage with new and existing members to ensure they receive value from the Chamber. Track and analyze membership trends to inform retention strategies.
- Design and organize fun, high-impact events that align with the Chamber’s mission and foster business growth.
Manage all aspects of events, including planning, budgeting, sponsorships, and execution. The Executive Director is required to attend all Chamber committee meetings and Chamber sponsored events. Engage members and the community through networking events, educational programs, and public outreach activities. Works with the Board to fulfill the organizational mission. The Executive Director leads the Chamber in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions. Develops meaningful relationships throughout the community. The Director represents the Chamber in contact with members, government officials, public agencies, local organizations and the public in fostering positive and effective relationships.
- Maintain strong relationships with local government officials and actively participate in discussions around policies that affect the business community. Serve as a voice for Chamber members in public forums, advocating for issues relevant to their growth and success.
- Collaborates with the Board to develop and review plans and policies for the direction of the Chamber.
The Executive Director guides the allocation of Chamber resources to accomplish strategic goals. The Executive Director works with Board and Staff to develop the annual calendar of events along with timelines. Works closely with the Board of Directors to develop and execute the Chamber’s strategic plan. Recruits and provides training for staff to fulfill job description responsibilities. The Director oversees staff performance standards, conducts personnel reviews, submits salary and benefits recommendations. All personnel management must comply with all applicable provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Provide dynamic leadership to Chamber staff and volunteers, ensuring alignment with the organization’s goals and values. Oversee financial management, including budgeting, fundraising, and ensuring operational sustainability.
PREFERRED PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience in leadership roles within business, nonprofit, or membership-based organizations.
- Bachelor’s in business, finance, marketing or related field
- At least 5 years senior administrative experience in a leadership position demonstrating success in growing membership and building partnerships.
- Experience with volunteer management
- Knowledge of budget development
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Ability to foster a positive, collaborative environment with diverse stakeholders.
- Creative problem-solver with a passion for supporting local businesses and economic development.
- Outstanding organizational skills
