com About Journeymen Journeymen Asheville is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit offering group mentoring and rites of passage for boys ages 12-17. Our model—Listening, Accepting, Modeling, and Blessing—creates a supportive, non-therapeutic space for adolescent growth guided by initiated men. We seek local candidates or those willing to relocate, especially those enthusiastic about camping and wilderness experiences. Position Overview We’re seeking a mission-driven, self-starting leader passionate about youth development Journeymen is seeking a full-time Executive Director to lead our organization into its next phase of growth. This individual will oversee programming, administration, fundraising, outreach, and operational management. The Executive Director is currently the sole staff full time member, oversees a part time program coordinator, and reports directly to the Board of Directors. The right candidate is a mission-driven, self-motivated leader with vision, strong follow-through and rites of passage. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Accountability
- Provide values-driven leadership and clear direction.
- Build strong relationships with board, mentors, donors, and partners.
- Inspire male teens, mentors, and families; accept feedback and grow. Program Management
- Lead program planning and execution (mentoring groups, ROPAW, Solos, etc.).
- Facilitate in
- and out-of-school group activities.
- Train mentors and track program outcomes and metrics for reporting.
- Maintain documentation for grants, funders, and internal reports. Operations
- Manage admin assistant; oversee contracts, insurance, and compliance.
- Maintain communication with families and volunteers.
- Work 2 evenings/week and 1 weekend day/month; attend 2 annual camping Rights of Passage events. Fundraising & Finance
- Manage annual budget, cash flow, and fundraising strategy.
- Lead grant writing, donor engagement, and communications.
- Ensure compliance with organizational financial policies. Outreach & Communications
- Speak publicly and represent the organization confidently.
- Manage newsletters, social media, and community relationships.
- Build partnerships with schools and local orgs. Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2+ years working with youth (mentoring, education, etc.)
- Program facilitation and male youth engagement experience
- Fundraising and grant writing background
- Strong organizational, communication, and tech skills
- Ability to hike, camp, and lead outdoor events
- Must have a home office setup, reliable internet, and transportation Preferred
- Emotionally mature and playful leadership style
- Appreciation for rites of passage and male mentorship
- Inclusive and culturally responsive mindset
- Confident solo operator and team collaborator
