OverviewThe Chief of Operations, “COO” willwork alongside the Executive Director and the school leadershipteam to achieve operational success at Ambition Prep. The COO is amember of the school’s executive team and is responsible foroperational quality, financial stability, strategic quality focusedon innovation and efficiency, and implementation of best practices.
Operational quality is a determinant factor in the success ofAmbition Prep and our students. The COO is responsible but notlimited to: ensuring that all school staff are using their limitedtime and resources in the most efficient manner possible; thephysical space and environment facilitates enhances excellentteaching and learning; obstacles to academic achievement areanticipated and avoided; and that staff, students, and families areable to maintain focus on learning and growth in every moment. TheCOO manages the business and operation team members in order tocreate, implement, and refine systems to maximize the power andefficiency of these resources in the service of ourmission.
Responsibilities and Duties1. Managementa. Manages variousmembers and leaders of the Ambition Prep operations and businessteam.b. Builds the capacity of the Ambition Prep team throughconsistent delegation, development, and coachingc. Manages externalvendors, including but not limited to back office providers,contractors, and insurance providersa. Works with the ExecutiveDirector and leadership team to make high-level decisions.b. Helpscreate and implement the strategic vision for the school.c. Problemsolves as required; protects the instructional leadership team’stime by addressing issues as they arise.3. OrganizationalPartnershipsa. Ensure strong partnership and alignment on keypriorities with the Executive Assistant inorder to effectivelysupport the EDb. Ensures regular correspondence with familiesregarding school policies, updates, events, and milestones.c.
Oversee recruitment initiatives and support the student recruitmentand enrollment process, ensuring that recruitment goals are met andstudents are enrolled in an efficient, accurate, and compliantmanner.4. External Relationsa. Acts as a representative of AmbitionPrep in the community.b. Makes new connections with communitypartners and manages relationships with external organizations.c.
Support, plans, and leads various events throughout the year.5.Human Resourcesa. Work with human resource staff and organizationalleaders to provide capacity for executing towards a vision fortalent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, andprofessional developmentb. Works to create a positive staff cultureand teaching environment.c. Reinforces and train staff on policiesand procedures6. Finance and Budgetinga. Serves as thebusiness/budget manager for the organizationb. Oversees financialsystems and compliancec. Ensures supply purchases and understandsoverall supply budget as well as all other department-levelbudgets.d. Oversee staff managing federal and state grants toensure grants are secured, allocated, budgeted, tracked, and incompliance.7. School Operationsa. Alongside the Director ofOperations, oversees facility and safetyb. Is responsible for theoverall visual impression and cleanliness of the school andensuring that all building decorum is maintained and reflects theAmbition Prep brand.c. Is on-call for any security or emergencyissues that may arise during non-school hours.d. Oversees thepurchase, maintenance, and inventory of technology equipment,implementation of technology training, and management of technologyconsultant relationships to ensure that the school has a fullyfunctioning technology infrastructure.e. Oversees management offood services by ensuring that food service is reliable, healthy,and efficient.f. Works with the business team to ensure the schoolmeets all compliance standards and is prepared for food serviceaudits, and that claims are processed.g. Serves as thestate-required Transportation Supervisor for the school.h. Ensuresthat transportation is safe and reliable and that as manytransportation barriers as possible are removed.8. AdditionalResponsibilitiesa. Ultimately, the Chief Operating Officer is anexecutive leader at Ambition Prep. Therefore, the COO regularlytakes on additional responsibilities and does whatever it takes toensure Ambition Prep students and staff have what they need inorder to be successful.

Qualifications Able to relocate to Jackson, MS, required (relocationassistance available) At least 7 years of experience in a school, regional, and/ordistrict setting, required At least 5 years of experience in management/leadership,preferably in charter schools, required At least 5 years of school budget/financial managementexperience, required Successfully pass a background check, required Strong computer skills, including Google Suite and Adobe Experience in working with teams and individuals to meetspecific and strategic outcomes Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. Alignment with Ambition Prep’s mission and demonstrated beliefin the ability of low-income children to excel academically and theability of schools to be the drivers of thatsuccess.
