Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent

JOB GOAL

To assist the Superintendent in the task of providing leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible operations programs and services.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

: Provide leadership in developing and overseeing the coordination of the district’s operations programs. Provides leadership for the day-to-day function and activities of the district’s operations departments and other assigned responsibilities for effective and efficient service. Develop and communicate a clear statement of vision for the area of assigned responsibility. Develop and communicate a clear program mission. Act as a liaison between the schools, the central office, consultants, Alabama State Department of Education personnel, and the community. Work to maintain effective relationships with the community, district partners, and other agencies and inform the community of progress and goals for district operations. Create an environment conducive to high levels of performance and professionalism. Serve as a leader for program quality and actively work with the staff to improve the level of performance. Monitor performance of the operations program staff and departments. Promote a climate of high expectations for program staff and departments. Perform program responsibilities and tasks within areas of assign responsibility. Comply with the federal and state laws and local Board policies. Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a variety of individuals and groups. Demonstrate professional ethics in carrying out the mission of the system’s operation programs. Research new programs and initiatives and participate in professional development to stay abreast of new opportunities for departmental and staff improvements. Participate in functions (Board meetings, work sessions, school events) to promote teamwork and support from district leadership. Serve on system, state, or community councils or committees as assigned or appropriate Oversee the development, orientation, and training for maximum utilization of the district’s operations staff. Attend training sessions, conferences, and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs, and legal issues. Represent the system in a positive and professional manner. Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain all appropriate records. Assist in implementing the system’s goals and strategic commitment. Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivery of services, and evaluation of services provided. Demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities for innovation. Serve on the Superintendent’s Administrative Council. Assist the Superintendent in establishing and maintaining effective communication with schools and the community. Regularly performs classroom monitoring of both programmatic and instructional practices of designated programs and projects. Performs such tasks and assumes such responsibilities as the Superintendent may assign.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

: 12 month/236 days. Salary to be established by the local Board of Education.

This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position.
