Job Description

The Director of Operations is responsible for the overall performance and profitability of the Deckorators extrusion facility. This role provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of operations, including production, inventory management, purchasing, safety, compliance, maintenance, shipping, and administrative functions. A primary focus is maximizing yield, improving throughput, and aligning operations with Deckorators’ brand standards and performance goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead all plant operations with a focus on safety, efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery of composite decking and outdoor living products. Develop and execute operational strategies to meet site financial targets, including cost control, margin improvement, and capital planning. Monitor and improve production KPIs such as OEE, yield, scrap rate, and uptime; lead continuous improvement initiatives. Build, coach, and manage a high-performing team across production, maintenance, shipping, HR, and administration. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Oversee purchasing strategy and manage all inventory procurement for raw materials, colorants, and consumables. Negotiate supplier contracts and manage vendor-managed inventory (VMI) and consignment programs. Maintain inventory accuracy through ERP system oversight, cycle counts, and demand planning alignment. Ensure optimal product costing, burden accuracy, and margin analysis to support profitability. Collaborate with finance on budgeting, forecasting, and capital expenditure initiatives. Set and monitor pricing strategies to maintain profitability and market competitiveness. Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and internal safety standards. Actively participate in the plant Safety Committee and lead site-level safety programs. Drive lean manufacturing practices and standardization of operating procedures. Evaluate and implement new technologies or automation to enhance production capabilities. Support product development and process improvement initiatives in coordination with R D and marketing teams. Ensure operational policies and procedures are current and compliant with company standards.

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of experience in plant or operations management, preferably in extrusion, plastics, composites, or related manufacturing environments. Strong leadership, team development, and communication skills. Proven experience in inventory control, purchasing strategy, and cost optimization. Strong analytical skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Familiarity with UFP Industries’ structure, culture, and product portfolio is a plus

Compensation:
Salary Range:

$145,000 – $170,000 annually, based on experience, location, and other factors. May include additional compensation such as cost-of-living adjustment, or performance bonus.
