MANAGER-STEAM PLANT OPERATIONS
The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Description To coordinate the operation, monitoring, and preventive and corrective maintenance of steam and hot water boilers, condensate systems, and other associated equipment to provide continuous utility service to University buildings and other UAB affiliated customers of the steam system. To oversee campus-wide water treatment program for steam boiler systems, hot water systems, steam, condensate water systems and hot water boilers. To prepare and present reports of various types to management and staff.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Instructs plant personnel in the safe and proper operation and maintenance of equipment and related systems. Monitors work activity levels and ensure proper staffing and other resources are properly allocated. Provides technical assistance to directors and others as needed in support of utility operations. Prepares special and periodic manpower, budget, personnel, and equipment reports and other operating data as needed. Attends meetings as required to discuss operational issues and departmental procedures. Assists Director in interviewing, selection, promotion, and evaluations of applicants, employees, and supervisors for central utilities department according to University policies and procedures. Monitors preventive maintenance jobs to ensure the work is performed in compliance with the preventive maintenance standards and to ensure that preventive maintenance and University objectives are being met. Maintains safety and health standards to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes and regulations and University policies. Performs other duties as assigned.
STARTING ANNUAL RATE OF PAY
$73,945 – $112,000 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications). Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS
MVR Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
