The Director of Mill Operations responsible for directing and coordinating activities of facility processing departments to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize profits by performing listed duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Incumbent is responsible for supervision of all processing operations and may be asked to travel for extended periods of time. The incumbent is expected to maintain a daily presence onsite with regular office hours. Job Duties Performs administrative activities associated with the effective management of facility operations, including compiling, storing, and retrieving operational data for reports. Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of organization policies and goals. Assist in planning, development, and implementation of operating and capital budgets. Coordinates activities of departments such as operating, manufacturing, engineering, planning and maintenance to effect operational efficiency and economy. Analyzes division or department budgets and operating cost to identify areas in which reductions can be made. Confer with salaried personnel and review activity and operational procedures to determine if changes in programs or operations are required. Direct preparation of directives to division or department supervisors outlining policy, program, or operational changes to be implemented. Direct and coordinate activities concerned with dismantling, improving, installing, or repairing machines and other equipment. Coordinate production activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment. Review production and operating reports and direct the resolution of operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimum cost and prevent operational delays. Prepare written and oral reports on key business indicators for upper management and employees. Daily review of production quality, sanitation, and safety coordination between departments. Communicate daily with engineering and maintenance departments concerning needs of the Processing Department. Interviewing, hiring, training, and evaluating department employees. On call by phone 24/7 unless pre-arrangement is made. Develop, track and improve metrics related to employees, safety, equipment, production, expenses, and other related to the success operation of a manufacturing facility. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned. Education Requirements Broad knowledge of such fields as engineering, advanced accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Broad knowledge of processing equipment design, installation, use, and repair and an elevated level of mechanical aptitude is a plus. Equivalent to four years of college, plus 3 years related experience and/or training, and 4 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
