Position Summary:

Based in Berlin, CT, the Operations Manager will perform essential job functions associated with heat treatment under the direction of the Senior General Manager to meet customer specifications, including assisting other employees as needed. Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities): The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to, the following. The position leads and supports the House of Safety and Operational Excellence (SQDC) philosophy. Must have a detailed working knowledge of the BMS program. Understand and drive site utilization to 80% based on 168/week. Be aware and carefully maintain operating costs to budget, flagging concerns as soon as identified. Participate in the development and execution of a multi-year strategic plan. Participate in sales efforts, quoting, pricing, and market penetration, assuring follow-through on customer orders. Directs activities of leadership team, sets priorities for day-to-day equipment maintenance, and maintains appropriate production staffing as needed to meet company goals. Responsible for financial aspects of the operation, including sales (invoices, credits, and collections), purchasing (ordering, invoice approval), capital expenditure requirements, and payroll. Responsible for shop production schedules and conducting production meetings, including supervisors’ meetings, working closely with the Customer Service and Sales personnel. Ensures customers’ needs are appropriately met by shipping to schedule with minimum turnaround time and a high degree of quality, working closely with the Quality Manager. Directs maintenance activities in regard to shop equipment, instrumentation, facilities, and personnel. Responsible for enforcing the company handbook and communicating with the Office Manager and/or Regional Human Resources Manager on matters relating to discipline. Responsible for ensuring the safe operation of equipment, safe work habits of the employees, and administering the safety program within the guidelines established by the company. Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism. May have access to compensation information of other employees or applicants in this role, and as such, cannot disclose the pay of other employees or applicants to other individuals. This position is responsible for the financial function of the business and, as such, will perform duties in a fiscally responsible manner.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident cardholders. Education – Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience with advanced training in operations, management skills, finance, metallurgy, quality, safety, and environmental management. Thorough knowledge of and experience with heat treat processes, straightening, and forming. Minimum of three years of business management experience. Requires two or more years’ supervisory experience. Must be effective in promoting and maintaining positive employee relations and have a basic understanding of company rules, procedures, benefits, and pay policies as related to production employees. Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language. Knowledge and hands-on experience of computer applications, including Microsoft Office and databases, is required.

Physical & Mental Demands:

Must be able to work in a sitting position for extended periods (at desk, while driving, and/or on airplane travel) in an office/industrial environment. Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions. Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions. Ability to lift 30 lbs. May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc. Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc. Ability to hear in person and via phone.
