Job Description

Hiring for an Operations Manager in Wallingford! Job Description We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to ensure a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures in compliance with legal regulations such as PSM, OSHA, DEEP, EHS, etc. The role involves managing multiple departments including Production, Training, Maintenance, and Warehousing, and requires a proactive approach to leadership and operational management.

Responsibilities Manage site departments:

Production, Training, Maintenance, Warehousing. Recruit, inspire, develop, train, organize, coach, counsel, and drive accountability in non-exempt and exempt staff. Communicate job expectations; plan, monitor, appraise, and review job contributions. Investigate new manufacturing management or business process alternatives. Create operational and strategic plans to align with key operational targets and project goals. Develop and share operations information, contribute to review forums, and complete action plans. Implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Support forecast requirements; prepare an annual budget; schedule expenditures; analyze variances; initiate corrective actions. Manage product costing master data, SAP manufacturing data, inventory accuracy, and raw materials utilization variations. Maintain standard operating instructions for production and maintenance, as well as training records, with support from engineering. Manage metrics to create a safe, productive, and continuous improvement culture aligned with business expectations. Develop improved operations systems; enforce and evaluate policies and procedures; develop processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping. Collaborate with HR, legal counsel, and safety department to ensure compliance with OSHA health and safety regulations and other governmental regulations. Demonstrate knowledge/training of RCRA, DOT, EHS, and PSM requirements. Essential Skills Management skills Process safety management Chemical manufacturing Chemical processing background Experience managing manufacturing and large groups of employees SAP expertise Budgeting and scheduling EHS and chemical operations Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (preferably in chemical engineering) Experience in modern manufacturing procedures and business processes, preferably in a chemical plant Operational and data software experience (SAP, data analytics tools, Excel) Sound interpersonal and people management skills 15+ years of related experience and/or training Work Environment The role is based at a chemical plant with 200 people onsite, including 110 people in manufacturing. The work environment involves collaboration with diverse teams and adherence to stringent safety standards. The position offers relocation assistance and a 15% bonus.
