Position Supervised:
None Required Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Transportation, Marine Engineering, Logistics, or a related discipline; or a combination of formal education and a minimum of nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in commercial marine operations. Experience Minimum of seven (7) years of petroleum vessel operations, chartering, or marine transportation experience, with demonstrated leadership in complex logistical environments with at least one (1) year of seagoing experience. Languages English Traits Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across levels and functions. Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-centric mindset to maintain and grow key business relationships. Demonstrated ability to evaluate and enhance operational processes, implementing improvements that drive efficiency and compliance. Sound financial acumen, cost analysis, and variance reporting. Collaborative leadership style with the ability to guide cross-functional initiatives and foster team accountability. Strategic thinker capable of analyzing market trends and operational data to inform proactive decision-making. Agility in managing multiple priorities and adapting to dynamic business environments. Skilled in leading or supporting organizational change initiatives and embedding best practices in a compliance-driven industry. Preferred Qualifications Skills/Software Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), SharePoint, IMOS Veson, and data visualization tools such as Power BI. Familiarity with voyage management systems, ERP platforms, and maritime compliance tools is advantageous. Ability to multitask and manage/oversee multiple vessels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The position requires not only commercial operations oversight but also strategic problem-solving, commercial acumen, and the ability to serve as the central conduit between internal stakeholders and external stakeholders. This person will ensure operational excellence across the fleet while reinforcing a culture that drives long-term value and fosters high-trust relationships. Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Direct, disseminate, and oversee the scheduling, execution, and commercial performance of voyages, ensuring alignment with customer contracts and operational objectives. Establish, maintain, and continuously enhance relationships with customers through proactive communication regarding cargo logistics, demurrage, invoicing, fuel escalations, and rebilling of port and terminal costs. Serve as a critical escalation point for customer concerns, navigating complex operational and contractual matters by collaborating across internal functions, including Chartering, Legal, Finance, and Fleet Operations. Manage and maintain the integrity of charter party agreements, ensuring proper documentation for invoicing and claims handling. As necessary, coordinate voyage orders, confirm cargo compatibility, and disseminate critical updates to relevant stakeholders across the value chain. Monitor and analyze voyage and performance metrics, proactively identifying trends or variances to inform continuous improvement. Partner with customers to coordinate and communicate around off-hire events, both planned and unplanned, maintaining transparency and commercial alignment. Lead performance reviews with customers, present operational data, and develop joint action plans to improve service delivery. Visit vessels when necessary.
