Lowth Entrepreneurship Center. The successful candidate will manage the operations of the John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center (hereafter referred to as the Lowth Center) in the Sykes College of Business at The University of Tampa. Position will report to the Director of the John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center and the Dean of the Sykes College of Business. The John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center is one of the largest education spaces dedicated to the practice of entrepreneurship in the world. The Lowth Center was selected as the 2017 NASDAQ National Center for Excellence and has been featured as an important part of the success of the academic programs in entrepreneurship which have been ranked in the top 50 in the US in 2019, top 40 in 2018 by Bloomberg Business Week and in 2016 lauded as the “National Model Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Program” by the U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE), and in 2015 earned an “Excellence in Entrepreneurship Teaching and Pedagogical Innovation” designation from the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC). Lowth Center students have raised more than $1.5 million in external funding, taken first place in several national and international competitions and generated nearly $2 million in revenue. The center, which is part of the UT Sykes College of Business, houses the national headquarters for the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO) and hosts a number of annual events, including the Annual State of the Tampa Bay Entrepreneurial Ecosystem report, the annual CREATE competition for students, an annual Alumni Awards program, a New Venture Expo and a number of events and programs that promote and encourage entrepreneurship. The Center houses 5 faculty, 2 staff assistants and 10 student workers along with 22 student businesses, 12 community companies and more than 100 volunteers who visit regularly to coach and mentor early stage entrepreneurs. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of the leadership team of a top ranked one-of-a-kind live learning lab for entrepreneurship education. The purpose of the program is threefold: Help student-entrepreneurs deepen their understanding of entrepreneurship and innovation and help take their ideas and products to market; Serve as a liaison between community entrepreneurs housed in the incubator working with entrepreneurship students; and Become a global resource for individuals and institutions interested in State-of-the Art curriculum and programs designed to advance the ever-broadening field of entrepreneurship. Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day operation of the center facility including effectively communicating the Center story, recruiting potential participants for programs, and supervising administrative support staff, venture coaches and volunteers. Provide day to day management of the Lowth Center staff assistant positions and student workers. Manage policies and procedures of the Lowth Center and work with the Center Director to ensure compliance with all University of Tampa and Sykes College of Business policies and procedures. Includes training students and staff periodically and updating policies and procedures as necessary. Assist with the implementation and marketing of all programs for students, educators and other professional development seminars and conferences offered in and by the Lowth Center. Manage the planning, implementation and processes and policies required for all key events and programs offered in the Lowth Center, including the attendance and supervision of these events. Serve as the main point of contact with the Lowth Center Advisory Council under the guidance of the Lowth Center Director to ensure a mutually beneficial relationship. Work with the Lowth Center Director to collect metrics and prepare periodic reports and maintain records of projects, progress, and the status of the Center programs. Coordinate involvement from The University of Tampa faculty who are engaged in helping accelerator and incubator businesses. Oversee marketing efforts by working with the center staff assistants to coordinate the marketing efforts of the Lowth Center, including ensuring UTampa’s official community of the Lowth Center, Spartan Collective, is up to date, overseeing the social media campaigns, managing email campaigns and newsletters and working with The University of Tampa Public Information office. Work with center staff assistants to ensure the Center is working with The University of Tampa media services department to ensure the effective use of the Lowth Center technology, including keeping the marketing and information screens in the Lowth Center are up to date and effectively communicating the Lowth Center story. Manage funds by working with the Lowth Center Director to plan for purchases and manage inventory of office supplies, marketing materials and specialty items, etc. Prepare periodic reports and maintain records of projects, progress, and the status of the Center activities, including preparing an annual report. Develop and maintain a dynamic image of the Sykes College of Business and the University. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Successful candidates will possess an undergraduate degree with a graduate degree preferred. Evidence of strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to network within the business community. Demonstrated ability to network within the university community. Ability to work with diverse groups including businesses, entrepreneurs, major corporations, universities, the public and economic development organizations, academic organizations. High energy, enthusiastic and motivated individual with a demonstrable passion for, and interest in, entrepreneurship education and the practice of entrepreneurship. Knowledge and understanding of university environments – organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures preferred. Knowledge in building and mentoring a high-performance management team in a complex organization with demonstrable skill in developing strong teams and collaborations. Knowledge of how to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and a wide range of business, industry, and community partners. Possess both excellent spoken and written communication skills. Expertise with implementation and operations. Ability to effectively manage people in a fast-paced environment, manage budgets, and design effective programs to deliver for program participants. Ability to demonstrate management expertise; as well as, personal and professional ethical standards. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evening and weekend assignments. Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff.
