Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Pit Operations Manager to oversee daily operations across multiple active borrow pits. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and profitable operation of our pit sites, while managing personnel, maximizing equipment utilization, and fostering strong relationships with our dirt-buying customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee operations across 5-10 active borrow pits, ensuring safety, efficiency, and profitability. Supervise and support pit supervisors, foremen, and operators, maintaining strong leadership across all sites. Train equipment operators on proper pit development, pond excavation techniques, and material quality control. Manage equipment and labor allocation to optimize production based on current demand and future forecasts. Maintain strong customer relationships, including coordinating dirt sales, scheduling deliveries, and resolving issues. Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and permitting regulations related to pit operations. Analyze production data and site performance to drive operational improvements and cost savings. Enforce strict safety protocols and conduct regular site inspections to ensure all pit operations meet OSHA standards and company safety policies.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in excavation, heavy equipment operations, or pit/earthwork management. Strong knowledge of borrow pit development, pond excavation, and dirt product quality. Proven leadership ability with experience managing teams across multiple job sites. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to make data-driven decisions to maximize output and control costs. Proficient in scheduling, logistics coordination, and project planning. CDL or equipment certifications are a plus, but not required.
