JOB TITLE

Strategic Accounts Manager Position Summary:

Strategic (key) accounts are defined as those held by customers who produce the most revenue, or have the potential to do so, or are of other strategic importance. Development and retention of these customers is crucial to the business, and the Strategic Accounts Manager is instrumental in this. Particular emphasis is placed on analyzing which accounts are most strategic to the business at any given time, ensuring the profitability of these accounts, understanding the needs of these special customers, and ensuring that they receive premium service.

Essential Functions:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between key customers and SPG employees.
  • Manage assigned sales rep groups and hold them accountable for sales targets
  • Work closely with assigned customers to anticipate and understand their needs and requirements, and to offer product and/or service solutions.
  • Service strategic customers by tailoring a plan to meet their specific needs.
  • Identify opportunities unique to each assigned account in terms of sales, marketing, engineering and operations.
  • Study, analyze and understand market and business trends, anticipate how they affect key accounts, and recommend new strategies to prepare for and/or react to changes.
  • Address client concerns and ensure the resolution of issues in a timely manner, with appropriate follow-up.
  • Earn the trust of key decision makers at strategic accounts, establish credibility, build customer loyalty, and develop lasting relationships with strategic advocates.
  • Proactively conduct strategic account reviews, and track key metrics.
  • Identify Accounts whose revenue may be “at risk”, and work with Sales to implement appropriate offensive/defensive strategies.
  • Monitor sales revenue and profitability for strategic accounts, and work with SPG management to maximize both.
  • Work with Sales to develop new strategic accounts.
  • Provide training and consultative services for key customers.
  • Help to quantify the value that SPG delivers to key accounts.
  • Identify VA/VE opportunities with key accounts, and propose solutions to the customers.
  • Manage client-specific projects, establish and monitor project goals, timelines and budgets, and anticipate problem areas.
  • Track post-launch project success.
  • Actively participate in field testing.
  • Evaluate customer-specific projects for broader application in the general marketplace.
  • Work with strategic accounts to estimate materials requirements, and monitor potential changes that could impact their product demand. Work as a liaison between the customer and SPG to minimize our exposure to slow-moving or obsolete inventory.
  • Identify any problems relating to the product, process or people involved in supporting key customers. Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels, and verify the implementation of solutions
  • Act as the liaison between key accounts and SPG engineering to ensure that customer requirements are clearly defined at the front-end of all new projects. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of either AutoCAD / SolidWorks / ProEngineer a plus
  • Experience with Tier 1 ERP systems
  • Must be PC proficient including Microsoft, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and ability to work with customers in a positive manner
  • Strong Food Service industry background desired
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as effective negotiation and presentation skills.
  • The ability to listen to clients, either on the telephone or in person, and proactively develop strategies to support their needs.
  • To keep track of multiple clients, the Strategic Accounts Manager must be well organized.
  • The ability to collect and interpret data from various sources, establish facts, draw relevant insights using various resources and methodologies, and comprehend abstract and conceptual ideas.
  • The insightfulness to transform the needs of clients into realistic projects, and the project management skills to ensure that the client’s expectations are met.
  • A strong sense of commitment and urgency is needed to drive customer projects, and to keep team members focused on achieving results in a timely manner.
  • The ability to independently lead projects and interact with customers under pressure.
  • Must be self-motivated, and able to effectively motivate others in a team-oriented environment.
  • A professional demeanor and a strong sense of diplomacy are required.
  • The ability to read and interpret detailed documentation, including technical and financial reports, customer specifications, and government regulations.
  • The ability to prepare detailed reports, proposals, and manuals.
  • The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from executives, managers, customers and auditors.
  • Solid decision making and problem solving skills.
Minimum Required Experience or Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Business or Marketing or equivalent industry related work experience Minimum 1-2 years of proven account coordination/management experience Industry certifications such as CFSP or PMP are a plus
